I installed DVD Shrink 3.2 on my laptop.

I am getting the following error...

Quote:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

Failed to read "D:\"

Data error (cycle redundancy check.)

Now here's the funny thing. I can copy this same DVD on my desktop w/o any problems. I can not do so on my laptop. Any thoughts on this?

welcome to the forum gpcii,

well, the reason for that error could be 2 things.

one it could be that shrink can't handle the new protections on newer dvds, or it could be that the dvd is scratched or dirty.

so u can try cleaning the dvd and see if that helps.

u can also try ripping the dvd 2 ur HDD first than run it thru shrink.

this is the combo i use

This is the combo I use and all are FREEEEEEEEEEE

1. DVDFab decrypter(Free) (very good for ripping scratched dvds)
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

2. VOBblanker(Free) Not always needed
http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

here is a guide for VobBlanker
http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/article_vobblanker_page1.html

3. DVD shrink(free)

4.Burn with whatever program u want (free way, ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter)

Perfect 100% backup of any Movie Guaranteed, OF COURSE with QUALITY MEDIA

What movie r u trying 2 backup??

CRC errors as stated by 300bowler are a result of a scratched or dirty disc. The reason that you get the error on your laptop and not on your desktop is that DVD drives have varying degree of tolerance...some are just better readers than others. While the drive in your desktop may be able to churn through the errors on the DVD, the drive in your laptop isn't able to negotiate the bad sectors giving you the CRC error. If cleaning doesn't remedy the problem you may just have to use your desktop for this particular disc and other dodgy discs in the future.
