Hey im new to DVD Shrink and afterdawn and i have seen similar subjects but have had problems answering my question still. I have used DVD Shrink 4 or 5 times for ripping dvd's. the first three times it worked completely fine and took about a half an hour. but now its take 1.5-2 hours. it is only ripping at 700 km/s when it was over half that originally. If anyone could help me with this it would be much appreciated

you need to supply more info.

whats your pc stats?
what media are you using?

if you have done some previously without errors have you done a defrag to clear out the build up of excess data.

Have you checked to see if you have spyware and or viruses on your pc?

I had the same problem with my Sony Vaio desktop pc after reformatting my computer. My computer comes with the Recovery software installed on my computer and when prompted to make a Recovery disc I clicked on yes by accident and the computer created another drive on my computer and everything worked slowly after that.So since I had accidently deleted the installed Recovoery software I was "SOL" and had to order the recovery disc from SONY and reformatted my computer again and everything went back to normal. That was a complete BEEEEOTCH.

press ctrl+alt+del

how many processors are running.
Do you have msn, yahoo, or any p2p software running on your pc.Even though they may not show up as running when you use ctrl+alt+dal, the system manager will confirm whether they are really dormint or actually active

Can anyone tell me why when using DVD Shrink (after using dvdfab decryper and vobblanker) does it take me 3 hours to encode and another 2 hours plus to burn? I read on here that you can check the dma per controllers and ive tried that.. they say dma ultra.. i deleted them anyway then restarted the computer..

im now trying to do another movie and its over an hour to encode and im sure the burning will be longer too.. any suggestions? should i try Nero recode 2? has anyone known of that software burning faster?

thanks in advance

@Sarge you got two threads going asking the same question. Not good, it confuses people and against forum rules and try turning Caps lock off, it's considered shouting.

Let's have a peek at the forum rules Sarge, there's a link to them in my sig ;)

Let's keep to your other thread instead of hijacking this one.

Download DVD Decrypter, it may not be available here anymore but it can be found on the internet still.
Get what i've listed, not fabdecrypter etc...

Then use that program to rip the film from the drive to a folder on your HDD, make sure you rip it in file mode not ISO.

Then when you run Shrink use the tab to direct you to a file on HDD rather than a disk in DVD rom drive and do your processing on the file on the HDD.

See how well your PC works on that folder compared to an actual disk.

This will take the DVD drive out of the equation and let you see exactly where the problem lies.

If it still struggles then you know it is a setup/software issue on the PC, if it flies beyond belief then it may just point to a fault or bad setup on DVD drive.
Make a note on how fast the software initially reads the information into it from the file as well.
P.S. it will be faster anyway, so it all depends on how much faster.

When you get this info, we can then look deeper into what the problem is.
The more info you provide the better.
Also load, update and run adaware after first run and compare the speeds.
Do this after first run, as otherwise you'll have no comparison to work with.
You'll either need to clear all trace of the first run out of Shrink, or use another similar type film.

Good thinking BigDK.

Sometimes big movies can take even longer because of the extra analysis and the quality settings being used. Shorter videos that don't need that go a lot faster. So, some movies, especially on a PC with limited resources can take a lot longer than others. It's not unusual to see Shrink take a couple of hours under those circumstances. That was a good idea recording to the HDD and taking out the burner from the situation. Another thing that can be done is to use a trial of a program that is known to work fast. InterVideo has a trial for DVDCopy 5 that is one of the quickest backup programs I've seen. I'd suggest downloading and giving it a try. Rip the original DVD to the HDD in file mode and then open the files in DVDCopy 5 for backup.
