Here is the question, will the PS3 sell out on release date? Everyone I talk to says it will not because of the price, but at the same time they are planning on buying one! Do you think there will be overnight lines in front of Best Buy, Toys R US, etc.?

Yeah I am sure they are gonna sell out Sam, so be prepared for long lines if you want one on launch date. There is only gonna be about
1 - 2 million at launch and even at that very high price they are selling it for, there is at least that many fanboys who would buy the console, even it cost 1600 dollars.

They will sell out but not necessarily on Nov 17 depending on the shipment. Then the con men will come and sell them for $800-1,000 or more

ofcourse they will, for many people this is giving them the oppertubity to worship something new,and new era and a new way of the next gen hi def future...ofcourse con men will pre-order like 5 of theese and sell them for near twice the price of ebay.lol...
advertising has already started here in new zealand, with the 360,there was no advertising till a week before the release, but today in a blockbuster phamplete, they were advertising the nov17th ps3 launch...

yep skater685, its already being advertised here in NZ noticed that today as well. With the 360 there was very little to no hype around it, it was out a week before anyone i knew even new about it.
The ps3 has already got a crap load of hype behind it and will no doubt sell out very quick.

I'm sure it will be exactly like the PS2 launch, maybe even worse.

I agree about the sell-out of the PS3, I just wanted to hear everyone elses opinion. I work night shift, so I am used to staying up all night, so waiting shouldn't be too bad. I just have to find someone to fill in for me while I go to the bathroom. Luckily the local Best Buy is right next to a gas station.

There's no point just just standing in a line. You're going to need to pre-order. No pre-order, no PS3.

i'll be preordering from a smaller place, like Digital Outpost on state st downtown, or best buy if no little guys preorder.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Most likely, there will be a line for the pre-order too. I looked it up and besy buy has about 700 stores in the U.S., circuit city = 700 stores, walmart = 1,146 stores, toys r us = 700 stores. With only 1-2 million units of PS3 available on release I figure each store will only have 100-200 units. My number of stores don't include the online companies and other smaller chain stores so pre-orders are a must.

The 1 - 2 million units at launch is a WORLDWIDE number - not just US. Stores will be lucky to have more than 20 units each at launch. AFAIK BB, CC, and Walmart don't take preorders.

THe ps3 will absolutely sell out. The price point won't be a factor until the later on, when consumers other than loyal sony fans and holiday shoppers begin to look into buying a video game system.

they better have a price reduction for the latter half or quarter of 2007, or they can expect a large decline in sales.

yeah, i'd like to see any drop. preferably $100 around november. it would help sell quite a bit more units, but unless production costs drop significantly we wont expect a nice price cut by any means.

i think consumers can expect to see the first price drop around the same time that bluray itself drops in price by a couple of hundred $...

I think it will definatly sell out, many people will buy one just to sell it on via Ebay etc. If the 360 sold out i assume the PS3 is a definate sell out in most shops as they're not going to over stock.

yeah i too think it will most deffinatly sell out, but i am not too sure that the attment rate of acsesories and games will be as high as the xbox 360, seeing as how much the ps3 alone costs.

the 360 sold out because it had 800,000 units for launch. the ps3 will have around 2,000,000, but of course that is for world wide. it will indefinatly sell out unless sony production facilities can keep up production rates high.

i think i read backwhen that the 360 was the fastest selling console. correct me if im wrong or need clarification, anyway the ps3 and actually the Wii will surpass any milestone set by the 360 with ease. yes the ps3 will be sold out for several months
