Are those files VOB files? Are you trying to make a DVD out of clips you have? If so, Shrink won't open them and only the correct Nero application will.
If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

DVD Shrink has not been updated more than 2 years, so you're unlikely to rip any new released with only DVD Shrink.
** To make DVD ripping more simple using FREE method **
01) rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter to hard drive
02) have VobBlanker to process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file from DVDFAB
03) DVD Shrink to transcode the VIDEO_TS file from VobBlanker
04) DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn the final ISO or movie
Easy as sippin' on a Corona.
In addition, either "RipIt4Me (DVD Decrypter + FixVTS)" or "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker" are both FREE and flawless. They're both "updates" regularly, so it can rip (decrypt) the latest encrypted protections. That being said, you shouldn't really have to worry about ripping much.
Below are some FREE tools that can rip any dvds (even new released) flawlessly, regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS. The choice is yours, use whatever you're more comfortable with.
<< *FREE* Ripper & Editing tools >>
** DVDFAB Decrypter - one of the best FREE ripper now (takes 12 minutes to rip)
** RipIt4Me - one of the best FREE COMBO/ripper including DVD Decrypter + PSL (12 - 15 minutes to rip)
** VobBlanker - one of the strongest FREE editing tool (2 - 5 minutes to process/fix fake structural, fake cells, dummy vts/pgc, etc. flawlessly, it can "cut, edit, strip and blank" out any scenes/vts/cells or unwanted junks.)
** FixVTS - one of the best FREE junks processing tool (works the same way like VobBlanker, but it "can not" edit or blank out unwanted junks.)
** PgcEdit - a very useful FREE editing tool.
<< *FREE* Transcoding tool >>
** DVD Shrink - (one of the best FREE transcoding engine).
<< *FREE* ISO/Image burning engines from LUK >>
** DVD Decrypter
** ImgBurn

How about you back up and say what program/process you used to rip this video tape. And you can't just cut and paste files into Nero.

ok, Arnie I ripped the files using Dvd Express, I first tried to use direct to disc but was told the files were too big;so I put them on my hard drive. A friend told me about DVD Shrink. After d/loading DVD Shrink I located the files on my hard drive and clicked on add files and navigated to their folder which was my videos in my documents but I could not open it. I copied and pasted it to a folder in Nero but
I could not open the file from Nero either. I have tried using Windows Movie Maker,Nero, Dvd Express and DVD Shrink but have not had any luck with any of them.My PC is an Acer with 2.2 gig Athalon pcu 512 mg memory running xp media edition Hope you or someone can help as this is driving me nuts

What file format did you rip this in, does the video play on your PC? Try and see if the file will open in Nero Vision Express. With DVD Express you have the option of ripping in several formats, unless you did it with DVD Compliant files you may have ripped in SVCD format in which case Shrink will not open it. Was this done with one of those little boxes you hook up to the comp and then hook your VCR/Camcorder up and rip? I have seen them but not used one and wondered how they worked out for people.

Well, I too use DVD Xpress from ADS Technologies as my capture device, and I never had your problems. It would be nice to know what settings you are using and what format you are capturing to.

yes Arnie I ripped it with one of those little boxes which you have seen The file was supposed to be converted to Mpeg2by the Dvd Express software. I can open it in any of Neros programs.I can open it with several other applications, but they all tell me the file is too large which is why I tried DVD Shrink, which will NOT open the file

If you can open the file with Nero Recode that program will compress.

What you have is a big MPEG-2 DVD Compliant File that needs to be made into a DVD. Shrink won't open it because you don't have it as a DVD yet. IFO and VOB files need to be created. You need to import that huge file into Nero, ConvertXtoDVD or equivalent programs to make it a DVD.
