I came across a certain warning claiming that when I go to hook my XBOX 360 to my computer that I should make sure that well, it's kind of hard to explain so here is the quote: [quote] WARNING: If you are going to connect your 360 and PC together in *any* way, then you *must* provide the 360 with a path to true earth ground. This is because the 360 has a floating ground and horrible things happen if all connected systems do not agree on the reference voltage. I used a couple of croc clips from the chassis of the 360 to the chassis of my PC to achieve this.[quote] Then when I posted this on another forum, a member told me that I shouldn't do this. So my question is, am I going to damage my console if I hook it up to my comp this way and also is there any other way to safely hook up the xbox using a SATA cable??? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I am trying to hook my console up to my pc to load my fw but am kind of confused to which way I should do it. I have read numerous tutorials and the one that i was going to use had that warning. It is on the site http:// (ill ommit the address since i'm not really sure if you can post these here); maybe someone could tell me if it works or not.
Ok, what drive you have ? First of all.

I'll explain what to do.

(i think i should make a tutorial about how to flash, it seems people rely too much on other site,s shouldn't we have our own ?If a mod reads this, please send me a PM telling me if it's ok to post one, ill make one.)

thanks for the help. i have a samsung (TS-H943) and i'm trying to backup some of my games. I have been reading numerous tutorials all day and have a few questions. First, doesn't the MTKFLASH version 183 (or other version) come with the firmware file. I thought it did but when I opened the fw file, there were only five folders and none of them said MTKFLASH. (If i ever say anything I shouldn't, just let me know. i am new. i did read the rules though so i don't think i am doing anything wrong but who knows). Back to the topic, so i dont know if i have the mtkflash program so i went ahead to got version 1.83 of it off the net but now i dont know if i should just add it into the fw folder or what? My next concern is when I finally hook my xbox360 up to my pc via sata cable do i need to take some precautions or do anything special so that i do not damage my console or my comp because that tutorial made it sound like i would ruin my console if i didnt.

First of all ? Are you downloading V3.0 (or 3.1 or 3.2) ?

if you are, for some stupid reason, it didn't come with mtkflash or the other files.

If this is all correct, download V2.0 It comes with everything you need, then just add the xtreme30.bin to the xtreme20 package. Then just:

---------- My 30 Seconds Tutorial ! ----------
1 -read you firmware
mtkflash r /m orig.bin

2 -make a backup copy of it
copy orig.bin orig.bak

3-Hexedit (i use HHD Free Hex Editor)
Copy From orig.bin the lines 4000 to 4400
Then Paste them at the same spot on the Xtreme30.bin
SAVE, even though i like to rename the final file as patchedfw.bin

4-FINALLY flash
mtkflash w /m Xtreme30.bin(or patchedfw.bin if you did what i said.)
--------------------------------------

You could ruin it if you do the flashing wrong, some people "brick" their consoles because of doing these steps wrong. Other than that, i'd say to make sure you plug your xbox360 to your power supply before connecting/booting your pc, since pc manufacturers always say HDDs and CD/DVD roms could get damaged if connected tru usb, sata or ide to the pc and not actually have the power cables connected to them. So if we take that little computer lesson, it shouldn't be different for the Xbox drive.

Hope this helps !

K, sorry to have to ask you so many questions but I want to make sure I have it right before I do this. Okay, I just got ahold of the extreme firmware V2.0. So you say to drop the xtreme30.bin into the 20 package so should I delete the xtreme20.bin file because I will no longer need it since I now have the xtreme30.bin file in there??? Next, your 30 second tutorial: I do that once I have my console hooked to my pc right? after I make the boot disk and start up my comp? sorry, I am kind of new to this so I don't really know that much. I have read a tutorial and am planning on following it while at the same time using your advice as well. So we can't post addresses here. damn i wanted you to take a look and make sure everything looks legitamate. Anyways,(just in case you can't go to the site) the tutorial says to connect the power supple along with the video cable just to be safe. What am I supposed to connect the video cable to (it isn't pictured very well) and the video cable from what, the xbox??? It also says to connect a SATA cable from the pc to the dvd drive in the console. Is this safe as long as I have the power cord plugged in??? Sorry to be a huge bother but I dont quite understand your steps that you wrote. Were you able to construct a tutorial??? Hopefully, i would trust yours over thiers.

Yeah, kick the old, welcome the new.

Yes, make a boot floppy and add the MTKFLASH program and the BIN files.

The hex editor is done in wondows.

Just the power cable it's good, to most people, myself incluided, works fine when we turn on the xbox power when the computer finishes booting up and it's at the DOS prompt.

No problems there, like i said in a post a while back, always plug your xbox's power before booting up pc, just so it has a good grounding, since for a pc hdd or dvd/cd rom it could get affected if the ide, sata or usb connection is used without the power cable connected.

You're not a bother.

I haven't done the tutorial, i am still waiting for a mod to tell me if it's all right to post one here.

Have a good one,
anything else, let us know !

K, thanx for the reply. I know that was a long message. So, Ideleted the xtreme20.bin file and replaced it with the xtreme20.bin file. Now I have 5 different files and 1 folder in the extreme 30 folder. A read me, enable 0800, isobuilder, MTK-NF4,xtreme30 and then a zipped MTKFLASH 183c folder. Do i need to unzip that MTKFLASH 183c folder or not because the MTK-NF4 file is in the Xtreme20 folder. Does that make sense??? When I go to make my boot up disc you say to add the MTKFLASH program and the bin files. Do you mean to add the enable 0800, isobuilder, xtreme30 as well as the MTK-NF4 files. Do I need to add the MTKFLASH 183c folder or no? Also, so your saying that it is ok to use the SATA cable as long as I have the power cord in as well. GREAT! One more thing, in the tutorial, it says to hook the xbox up to the pc with the SATA cable and power cord then turn on the xbox first, then push in the boot disk and lastly turn on the pc. Is that right or do i put in the boot disk, turn the pc on and lastly turn the xbox on??? Im so sorry i have to ask you all these questions but i want to make sure i have everything right before i do this. thanks so much neo_pr.

You meant you replaced it with the xtreme30.bin right ?

The whole NF4 it's a modified mtkflash program for people who have a NF4 motherboard.

Yes you'll need the mtkflash program and the firmware (xtreme##.bin)in the boot disk.

It could be different:
For mine to work, i have to boot the pc up (everything connected, yes) then when it finishes booting up, when it gets to the prompt (it looks like A:/>) THEN power on the xbox 360, then wait about 30 seconds then run the mtk commands. For some people, turning on the xbox BEFORE turning on the pc works, for me it didn't

k, so pretty much add both the MTK-NF4 and the MTK FLASH folder. The folder is zipped; should I extract the files or just leave the folder zipped when I put it on the boot disk??? Then I add the bin file that i have. So after I make the disc I should have 2files and a folder on it, right??? My next question is the ENABLE0800 file. Do I need to burn that to a data disc (if so, which kind of data disc) or just a regular cd or what??? Lastly, do i need to do something with isobuilder or will i use that when i open up windows??? Obviously, i dont have to do anything with the readme file. Also, how can you tell what kind of motherboard you have??? I dont know if i have a NF4 motherboard or not. I have a Dell Dimension 8400. My roomate is majoring in some coumputer prgram and tried helping me find out what kind of motherboard i have but was still unable to find it. Lastly, you claim that it turning on the pc or the xbox first depends varies. Will that damage my xbox if i do it the wrong way??? did you do it both ways??? if so, did it damage yours??? thanx
