Hi,

I just started trying to burn DVDs and followed a good guide I got on here. I decrpyted two different DVDs without much of a problem, but could not work on them in shrink. I'd try to drag the title 1, the main movie, into the reauthoring part, and when it was analysing I'd get the following error for both DVDs:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failure to read file: some file name
Invalid access to memory location.
Can anyone help me? Not sure where to go from here.

What movies are you trying to do, did you rip these with another program before using Shrink? This could be a protection error, try ripping first with DVDFab Decrypter and then running the file through VobBlanker, and after that process with Shrink and burn.

Or you can use RipIt4Me which will rip with Decrypter and then clean the file and you can process with Shrink. Used in 1click mode all programs open automatically.

Downloaded your decryptor instead, gave me an error right away no matter what movie I tried putting on the harddrive. Is there anyone who knows how to fix my original problem rather than just redirecting to getting an entirely new way of burning DVDs?

You are getting protection errors. Shrink cannot handle the protection on these movies.

Quote:
DVD Shrink can't backup some DVDs

There are certain DVDs that DVD Shrink can't backup. DVD Shrink is not updated any more and there have been released new protection systems after that the latest DVD Shrink version was released. In this thread you will also find a list of problematic movies that will give you problem in DVD Shrink. You will also find a list of solutions in this thread with other decrypting/ripping tools that will solve this problem.

A list of protection systems that DVD Shrink can't handle:

Type 1: Sony's DVD protection system ARccOS? - Bad Sectors

DVD Shrink can't backup movies with Sony's DVD protection system ARccOS?. Affected movies are mostly region 1 and 2 DVDs. This protection system uses deliberately created bad sectors that will cause a reading error when DVD Shrink tries to read the DVD.

Type 2: Corrupt video data in unreferenced material

There is a video in VIDEO_TS.VOB where a kid jumps in the air, played over and over. DVD Shrink can't handle this video. It's a hidden video clip which are usually put in the subpictures.

Other types of new copy protection systems:

Settec Alpha-DVD and Puppetlock are other new copy protection systems.

How do you know that there is this new protection systems on the DVD?

If you insert the DVD in DVD Decrypter and check out the log file - you should see this:

Code:
W 20:14:19 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 20:14:19 5 areas have been marked as 'suspect'.
W 20:14:19 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary. This is just a guess from the program. To know if the guess was right - you should also find rows like these:

Code:
W 01:02:30 Inserting Dummy Sectors... (LBA: 212897 - 212943)
I 01:02:30 Extracting Sectors...
W 01:02:30 Inserting Dummy Sectors... (LBA: 213107 - 213519)
I 01:02:30 Extracting Sectors...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Six problems that you can encounter if you try to only use DVD Shrink:

Error Code "Exception occured":

Errorcode ver 3.2 in open disc mode:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Programming error - exception occurred

Errorcode ver 3.2 in open file mode:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Programming error - exception occurred
Invalid handle

Error Code "cyclic redundancy check":

DVD Shrink encountered and error and can not continue
Failed to read file "(Device)\" Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Your computer will freeze or give you a Windows system error or DVD Shrink will just disappear.

Error Code "Invalid DVD navigation structure":

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

Error Code "Failed to open file VTS_01_5.VOB":

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue
Failed to open file X:\Path_to\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB
The system cannot find the file specified.

The error code will always end with VTS_0X_X.VOB
This file does not exist on your original DVD.

Error Code "Out of memory":

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Out of memory
Not enough storage is available to process this command.
