I've read the FAQ that has steps for doing this with Nero. I don't have Nero, but have dvd-decrypter, dvd-shrink, and Roxio EZ CD/DVD creator.
What I want to do is take only the parts I want from the three Live 8 dvd's and make one dvd. I understand how to take just parts of one dvd and create either an .iso or files with video_TS structure on my hard drive. But I'm having trouble on combining the files. For example, when I select the parts on the Re-Author option in DVD Shrink, it puts them in a folder titled LIVE8_1. In that folder is a Video_TS folder with the files inside it. When I then go to disc 2 and select the individual parts I want and try to write them to the LIVE8_1 folder, it won't do it. It tells me the folder must be empty before it can write to it. So if I put them in all separate folders, how do I then combine them in DVD Shrink and creat an .iso that I can then burn?
Also, the Re-Author option in DVD Shrink will name the parts title 1, title 1(2), title 1(3), etc. How do I combine different files with these same names all onto one disc? I couldn't find any way when creating the files to specify a different name.
Any help would be appreciated. I've got .iso files of all three dvd's on my hard drive, so I'll be working from those.
To use ISO's in DVDShrink use File-> Open disc image.
You would then hit reauthor and double click the Title that contains the part you want, then use the start/end frame option to get exactly the segment you want. You could again double click the same Title, or another from the same ISO again, if you want 2 parts from the same DVD and it will add it again (changing the name as you mentioned to Title 1 (2), (3) etc., obviously Shrink needs to assign different names, it has no bearing on the end prduct.). You could then trim this to the part you want.
Open another ISO, hit reauthor and start the process again, double clicking the Title(s) you want, trimming etc.
When you have what you want you could then change the order by using the up/down arrows.
Thank you, MysticE. I think I understand everything that you said. Let me tell you where I am, and what problem I'm having.
I have the .iso files of all three dvd's on my HD. I used the re-author option in DVDShrink to select just the parts of disc 3 that I wanted, and backed up to my hard drive. It created a folder called Live8_Disc3. Within that folder is a VIDEO_TS folder that contains the files, and the blank AUDIO_TS file.
Now I open up the image of dvd 2 and with the re-author option select just the files I want. I hit backup and when I try to send them to the same folder (Live8_Disc3) I get the message that DVD Shrink needs the folder to be empty before it can proceed, and do I want to delete the files? This happens if I have "create audio_ts and video_ts" selected. If I unselect that, it will back up the files to that folder. Is that the correct way to proceed? Or do I need to point them specifically into the VIDEO_TS subfolder?

Why back it up to your HD? Just leave them in Shrink and move to the next ISO. As I wrote, just pick the parts you want, adding the same title (or another from the ISO) as often as needed and trimming in Shrink till you have what you want... and just leave it in Shrink and then File-> Open Disc Image, the next ISO, hit re-author and repeat. Open as many ISO's and pull as many segments as you need, stacking them in the left pane, then Backup the whole project at once.
Also remember you can re-order the new titles with the up/down arrows.
I got it! My problem was that I didn't realize I could open a second disc image in the Re-Author function and add it to what I did from the first image. I thought I would lose it. Thanks for your help!
