is PortIO required even for a flashed BenQ?

or must I really change my OS again T_T

edit: or am I better off using the dosflash method? no connectivity kit, i think it's flashed with 1.4 but I don't quite remember

PortIO is needed for Jungle Flasher to see the BenQ. You can use Jungle Flasher with WinXP, Vista, and Win7 as long as they are 32bit. If you have a 64bit OS, you will need to use DosFlash64 v1.8.

It is the same process. Just click BenQ Unlock, read the firmware, autload iXtreme firmware, write the firmware.

I'm not sure if anyone's interested or if it has been said before, but you can view the pictures in the tutorial by dragging them up into the url bar or right click -> "Copy Link Location" and paste in a new tab/window, somehow it bypasses the error.

Hope this helps someone.

I've already answered this question in another thread. Yes, you have to open your xbox up to flash it. If you mess it up before you get the dvd key then you cannot recover it at all, you have an expensive dvd player.

You plug the sata cable into the back of the dvd drive. But I would recommend getting a connectivity kit, they make it so much easier to flash.

I'm not 100% sure as I have vista 32 bit os but I don't think PortIO works with 64 bit. You will have to use iprep or another program (i've only used jungle flasher so I can't help you with another one).

If by brick you mean erase the firmware, then yes, you can recover it.

If you mean brick by shorting out the drive electrically, then no, you can't recover it.

To recover a BenQ drive with no firmware:

Make sure you have the proper I/O port selected.
Click Intro/Device ID.
Pop up box, click OK.
Power cycle drive (disconnect DVD drive power cable and reconnect within 1 second).

I need some serious help with my inability to flash these drives. First i'll start off saying that i tried using the onboard SATA slots and that didn't work in order to flash my drives, i even tried Jungle Flasher and it doesn't recognize my drives at all.

I have two Xbox 360's that i'm trying to flash. The first one has a Benq drive and the other has an Hitachi 59. Because my onbard SATA wasn't working i bought a Rosewill RC-212 PCI SATA Controller card. My friends have used this and this is what they recommended that i buy. At the same time i also purchased the Xcueter NE.

I've used both of these and still no joy. I doesn't recognize my drives. I've tried "mode b" on the hitachi and still no love. I've followed the Jungle Flasher tut to a "T" and it won't pick up my drve.

I'm using a VIA VT6421 Rosewill SATA card. Could it be that my motherboard just isn't compatible? I would think one of those 3 aforementioned methods would have worked...

Damn, I've tried the tutorial and it doesn't work.

Here is my setup:

1. Benq DVD drive
2. X86 Windows XP OS w/ NET Framework 2.0
3. Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers 27DF
4. Intel 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller 27C0
4. Jungleflasher 0.1.66
5. PortIO32 installed

I've done the Bootable USB drive with Dosflash and neither programs will recognize my Benq drive. I can see it in the Bios and it doesn't say Benq. It says "PLDS PG-16D2S". Don't know which model that is. Also did the "B" mode also.

Someone please help before I toss my Xbox against the wall and tear all my hair out! I've gone though so many threads and Googled and still can't find out what's wrong.

ICH7 is probably your issue. I have that as my onboard SATA and couldn't do anything with it. I've read some people getting lucky and able to change the SATA settings in their BIOS but I had no such luck. I had to get the VIA SATA card with the 6421 chipset.

Ok, I just bought a VIA Sata PCI card and it is 6421. I installed it, and followed your tutorial and removed the driver.

Now JungleFlasher does recognize it but when I try to hit the Benq Unlock button I get an error that says this:

Sending Magic Keys to Drive on port 0x0xD860
the device aborted the command
error register:0x54 (MSB 01010100 LSB)

What's the problem now????? How the heck could it be so easy for others?

Side Not: The drive is not recognized as Benq. It's recognized as PLDS DG-16D2S. ALso VIA Raid controller is 3249 even though the card IS a 6421 chipset. It even says so on the box.

You have a Lite-ON, not a BenQ!

Yeah I literally just figured it out. The drive looks exactly like the Benq pictures found all over the internet and even has the white wire in the front. Looks like Microsoft is trying to combat firmware flashers huh?

Is there anyway to flash the Lite-On drives without that CK3 kit? I'm so sick and tired of going tons of different sites to try and flash this bastard. I want it done already so I can play my backup games.

Check the firmware revision. It is in the lower left hand corner on the DVD label that is on top of the drive.
