This has only started happening with the last two dvds that i used AnyDVD and DVD Shrink with. the first half of the movie would run fine, then it would stop and go, stop and go, for a while, then it would start running normally again. I am using different kind of dvds, but i don't think that is the problem. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. kathy

Hi kattkitty
What's different kinds of DVD's are you using?
How about the burn speed?
Is the burners firmware up to date?
Do these play fine in the PC?

Ok since your using Nero to burn post the last Nero log - that will give info on the drive, discs etc.
If using Nero 6 look here: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
If using Nero 7 look here: program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory.
Just need the last one and be sure to edit out your serial # - usually begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

I downloaded Nero version 7. would this help? i hope so. i will burn an original dvd that I have on my book shelves and get back to you on how it did. it might be a while, since i would probably have to watch most of the movie to see if it stops and goes. thanks, katt

I think Blinkie7 is on the right track with the questions. I would guess that it is a media issue and burn speed issue. Check out the guide for using DVDShrink at the web link in my signature. This will help you set the preferences properly and ultimately get good backups. Don't use paper labels on your discs. This can cause freezing. I only use a sharpie, not as pretty, but they always playback without any trouble.

Hi. Thanks for all the help from you guys. I will check the speed controls and get back to you. I also use a sharpie on my dvds. It really does not matter if the tops of the dvds are colored are not, right? will keep you posted. thanks, katt

kattkitty What type of DVD's are you using. You say silver and that could mean a couple kinds of them. The best is Verbatim. Imation is another silver and they are no good. If you cannot get Verbatim then try Sony or Maxell and they will do till you can get some Verbatim. checkout best Buy as they have sales all the time for a 50 pack for around $15.00. Good luck....

The dvds I am using right now are the ones I bought from Staples and they only have Staples on the top of the dvds and they are silver. The last bunch I had bought from Staples were something else, I don't remember exactly the name of them but the tops of the dvds were a light color (colored dvds). What I am doing right now is copying a dvd that I have on the shelf. I have also changed the settings in dvdshrink so that it would take a long time to do it. I rather have the smoothness instead of speed. thanks, katt

hi kathy. hope you the last burn has worked well for you. i had similar problems when i first started. i have found that spending a little bit extra to get good blank dvds (i use taiyo yudens) and never burning them faster than 4x solves all the issues you have described.

thanks for the tips. I am going to take the dvds i bought from staples back and exchange them for some good ones, hopefully like the ones i had before. i will also try to remember the speed burning. i dont mind having a dvd burn for 4 hours if it will be a really, good dvd and work well. kathy

It should never take 4 hours to burn. Burning at 4x should only take about 14 minutes.

it took a long time to burn the dvd once i set the settings on smoothness instead of sharp, but the dvd did the exact thing as before. it plays good for a while, then stops, then goes, then stops, then goes. i am beginning to think that it really might be the kind of dvds i have. am going to take them back and get a different kind.

Do the AnyDVD updates come up automatically? or do I have to find them and where? Also, does DvdShrink 3.2 ever get updates? thanks, katt

hi guys. kattkitty is back in business. lol I took back the blank, silver brand of Staples dvds and exchanged them for the ones I had before (Sony). I also set the burn speed a little bit lower than maximum and the movies have been turning out just great! Thanks for all of your help from everyone. katt
