Hi everyone,
I would just like to know if the PS3 (NTSC from USA) would work back in the UK?
My reason for asking this question is that i am going New York on December 26th, and have thought about getting a PS3 out there (if available at the time), and then bringing it back to the UK to sell on Ebay? or keep and play for myself...
Thanks :)

Well the american is going to be NTSC the european games will be PAL. BUT with the psp the games were not regioned or whatever you want to call it. But you WILL have troubles watching european movies for sure. Not sure if the games are regioned or not.

Ok if you bought a NTSC ps3 then that would mean all of the games that you buy were you live would be PAL so it wouldent work... So you would have to buy online for everyone of your games pretty much...

so its not region free? sorry if this is annoying anyone, but i need to get all thoughts right before i splash out $600 on a machine that might not work in the UK...
Theres always ebay right? Theres always gonna be a hardcore gamer wanting a ps3 before its UK release?
And anyway the ps3 most likely wont be available in NY when i go on the 26th Dec...

im not really planning to keep the system but to sell it on ebay UK, unless ofcourse im stuck with it. I figured i'd buy a game as well with the system to start off with. Do you think (knowing that its after xmas and little kids will have lots of pocket money lol) that i would still get good return/profit from it, or not enough to bother?

and seeing that it comes out in the USA on the 17th, no doubt there will be loads circulating on ebay UK, so i can see if the prices they are reaching is worth all the hassle...

here are some links about region free games, pros and possible cons
Quote: Sony's Phil Harrison confirmed that PS3 software will be region free
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/23/region...ayer-confirmed/
Quote: The one caveat of this new region-free structure is that games made for specific regions' electrical and TV standards may have problems on your TV set. A PAL PS3 game, for instance, will have difficulty running on an NTSC TV, unless the developers have thought ahead and planned for that issue. It is currently unknown how the PS3 will cope with this problem (whether there will be a warning when you run an import about possible TV incompatibility, or if there might be a no-play screen for incompatible games depending on your PS3's TV settings.) Luckily, modern HDTV standards go a long way towards making that problem moot. Also, games made in other countries will naturally only have the text and dialog it is programmed with -- so don't pre-order all of those Japanese RPGs and Dragon Ball Z games too fast if you don't know a lick of kanji (English will only be in if the developers have planned for it, though it's unknown if there will be any type of "patching" system for multi-language releases, although that might be possible on supported games post-release now that the PS3 is carrying its massive HDD and flash memory support.)
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/697/697656p1.html
Quote: Yeah, you heard us, any game anywhere in the world will play on any PlayStation 3 console purchased in any nation -- in theory. Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean developers will include translations for every language with their game, but could this usher in a new era of nation and language agnostic gaming? Perhaps, perhaps, but if nothing else, keeping it region-free is a very pro-consumer move that will make it easier for game fans to be game fans.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/23/plays...ip-region-free/
Quote: TDuring an interview with Wired, Sony?s Phil Harrison confirmed that the PS3 will have region free games, including those downloaded from the PS3 online service. This means games from other territories can be played on a console, which is good news for the gamers primarily interested in importing Japanese games.
and here is the CATCH that emachine mentioned above...
Quote: Harrison also said that Blu-ray movies will not be region free.

unless this has all changed, GAMES are region free

dang you hade, i was just about to post something about the region free-ness and you were the most recent poster on it. games are region free, but videos are not.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

@judjr
if you dont remove that link, i think it will lead to a banning. its advertising for that "free" stuff, and the people here usually dont accept that.
