I kept getting this error message whenever I tried to burn The Big Lebowski. I was told it was b/c the disk was old, scratched and dirty. I just tried to burn The Inside Man and the message came up again. The DVD is pretty new and doesnt have any scratches. Why do I keep getting this message and is there a way to fix it? I am using the latest version of DVD Shrink 3.2. Any suggestions will help.
I'm not 100% sure what you are saying. You are trying to burn a movie from the HD using shrink or are you trying to shrink a movie to the HD?
More information will help. Tell me what steps you are taking before you try to burn. Did you try a program called FixVTS? A little more information and I can help you solve the problem.
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
failed to read file x:\ data error cyclic redundancy Data error
Possible causes (some you've been told of already):
The disk is either badly scratched, diry/smudged in areas where info can't be read correctly, a bad press (digitally faulty), or copy protection shrink can't handle because of its discontinued support/advancement.
NOTE:There could also be a slight chance that your optical drive may be tiring, if it's happening with all attempted backups, a new drive maybe the solution.
You say that the disk is new and looks clean, so:
You could have a possible bad press, if so then you'll need to exchange it for another and try it again.
If it's copy protection that's causing shrink to spit out the error... then try any one of these options:
1) DVDfab decrypter, it's a very good and supported free whole movie ripper/decrypter. Use it to rip the video files to your HDD, open the files ripped using shrink and proceed as you normally would.
2) Ripit4me, it takes the ripping/transcoding/and burning process and makes it a one click task. You'll need DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and FixVTS to make it all work.
3) Download and install the trial version of AnyDVD. Once installed, run DVD dhrink as you normally would to produce a backup, AnyDVD runs in the backround to crack the copy protection on the disk.
