I am new to this site and to the whole dvd "backing-up" scene and such. So thought i'd get that out, but moving on. I ripped this movie I own using DVD Decrypter, and I now want to compress it to fit onto a dvd. So I say to myself not a problem, and I go to DVD Shrink and went to "open files". I found the folder with the ripped dvd, and I click to open it and I get this error, "Dvd Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid data in file '(data location)\VTS_01_1.VOB'" I figured at first I screwed up in ripping it so I found a guide here and followed it and ripped it again. Same error comes up. I have gone through several posts and guides looking for answer, but havn't exactly solved my problem. So, any suggestions on what I can do? Thanks in advanced!

Sounds like a protection issue to me. Out of curiosity, what movie is it? And what Mode (i.e. ISO or File) did you ripped via DVD Decrypter? If you're ripping via File Mode, then you'll need to process the already ripped VIDEO_TS files through VobBlanker or FixVTS to correct some of those nasty VTS or corrupted Cells first, then go on with DVD Shrink.

For future reference, simply download the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter or RipIt4me (DVD Decrypter + FixVTS) and just fire up and start to rip the movie/dvd to your HD, then continue with DVD Shrink. Both DVDFAB Decrypter and RipIt4Me are 2 of the best FREE rippers at the moment. In addition, both are pretty simple and easy to use.

Good luck.

Hi b0n3s,

Sounds like you have an encryption issue that DVD Decrypter wasn't able to completely take care of, so DVDshrink is having a problem with trying to import and transcode the files.

Try this:
Instead of using DVD Decrypter, try using DVDFab decrypter (free), use it to rip the video files to a location on your hard drive, once it's done, open the files created by DVDFab using DVDshrink and proceed as you normally to create your backup.

Get DVDFab decrypter here

Use Anydvd and believe
