They said you can replace it with any 2.5" SATA HDD in the PS3, although it's an open at your own risk prospect...
Yo!

Newegg
Hopefully that has all of the specifications down. 2.5" SATA HDD.
Also, the price varies from $90 to $170 due to the number of RPM.
Hope this helps.

Are you saying that you already have a PS3? It sorta sounds that way from the way you worded you first post.

I think he is just planning for the future. Possibly to get a 20GB and then upgrade to a 100 GB for less than the cost that it would cost to get a 60GB PS3. But then again, you won't be getting all of the other features the 60GB PS3 has. Oh well his choice.

I don't know if it would necesisarily (spelling is way wrong) would be cheaper. If you look at the 60 GB PS3, it will have the internal wifi, memory card ports, and the chrome lettering and trim. I guess if you don't see yourself having a need for the memory ports and you have a wireless adapter, then it would I guess be a cheap upgrade. I myself am going with the 60 GB PS3 since I have the PSP and the Memory Stick Pro Duos to go along with it. All a matter of personal choice I guess.

i heard that most ps3 games have to be installed on the hard drive to help the speed the game runs at. whata the point of having a huge 50gb disc and you have to take data off and install? its like having a pc! having a super fast cell processor that can't read the data fast as the drive only reads at 2X speed? the PS3 base model drive could be filled so quickly. if you had a few games, music, pics and demo downloads. you are gonna have to upgrade pretty quick. and blue ray movies are nearly twice the price i saw today.
i can understand now why microsoft went for the normal dvd drive.
people slagged of the xbox 360 for ages saying it will have to have games with multiple disks. but its doing fine at the moment.

If you can't find the size hdd you want you'll have to wait till the next gen hdd's arrive where the info is stored vertically instead of horizontally as is the case at the mo with current hdd's
EDIT: Since there are usb ports you'll be able to go external someone will come up with a hack or something in time...lol...
