OK, yeah I have been leaving the two the same on the X-Box which may be why I'm not having success. Will give that one a go tonight. I really would like the Crossover/Laptop method to work simply b/c my desktop is old, in a room w/ no T.V to check so I have to lug it upstairs then bring in a little T.V if i need to mess w/ network settings on the spot and stuff (you get the picture)

But I will give those a shot tonight when I get home and report back. **Once I get that up and running I was thinking of trying the Chimp method for my HDD, but I've been reading through these forums and it seems so much can go wrong I am nervous to ruin my X Box now that it is finally soft moded!

Quick update, Ran Chimp, it failed when I put in the drive it said X Box required Service. Put the original HDD back in and ran Chimp again SUCCESS!!

So I now have a 250gig HDD in my soft mod X Box running UnleashX, and somehow the soft mod stuck after I installed the new HDD (not that I?m complaining!!).

***So now with that settled I would just like to figure out how to get this FTP to work, I havn't tried the suggestions yet b/c getting that HDD upgraded was priority. I'll let you guys know how this evenings FTP trials go***

Nope no luck, i tried those exact settings. Like i said it works on my desktop with xp. But when i try it w/ the xover cable out of my laptop (running vista) to my xbox in static mode it just dosn't connect even w/ those settings. If I switch it to DCHP in the xbox settings like i'm supposed to for xover cable and reboot the xbox it always loads the IP address as 0.0.0.0 ; and i cant find anywhere why i does that--

DHCP via the crossover method will simply not work, there is no DHCP server running to communicate with. That said, the method I described should work. Are you running any kind of Firewall on your PC (Windows Firewall, NAV, etc.)?

Guys THANK YOU for all the help, honestly i appreciate you taking your time to help others, i figured it out in Vista. I would open my network settings then choose manage networks, and i kept choosing the wireless network to edit the properties. Finally it dawned on me to try the LAN settings since i am using a xover cable, then i did exactly what you said slaeyer -- only in Vista you adjust the v4 network -- but i used the number set up you suggested, which i had been inputting wrong and now it WORKS finally. Thanks again, and if you dont understand what i am saying just ask and i'll explain again.

EDIT: BTW i am in static mode like you just suggested (missed it the first time we must have posted almost the exact same time) , screw the DCHP

Good job noticing that!!

I personally setup static IPs for all devices even tho I have wired my house and run a central server. This way, I always know what IP to find the xbox on. Most routers reserve 100 numbers for static use, choosing to start assigned IPs at x.x.x.100.

OK so I wont be back till later, but now I have installed XBMC (i have to boot it through apps in unleashX but thats Okay for now) How do i put emulators and games on it (i figured out movies) and do i just base it all out of my E folder, even though most of my memorey is in F and G. What would i name the folders i imagin E:games E:emulators E:movies But when i put in a iso (of a game i already own) that i downloaded off xboxisozone.com into E:\games\fighting_jam.iso it doesn't show up when i go to games in XBMC thanks

you should have F:/games G:/games and F:/music G:/music you can make other folders also but DVD2XBOX you can copy straight from disc to these(or any) folder

Most Xbox apps expect something akin to the following folder structure, actual partition used does not matter, I'd personally keep the E: partition clean except for music you'd like to listen to via the MS Dash.

apps
emus
games
music
video

so im guessing i would just do the same with emulators like F\emulators\n64\ROMS\diddy kong racing (as an example)

Also it worked and found my stuff, but i tried to put a game on there
F\games\Fighting Jam\fightingjam.iso It shows the fighting jam folder in games, but when i open it no ISO file -- do they need to b formated or something?

They need to be ripped from the iso into folders, ex. F:\games\007\Contents-of-game-disc. . . DVD2Xbox is a good tool for the job!

I suscribed to xboxisozone and i can just DL them as long as i own them. They come in a rar file, when i unpack it i get one ISO file. Now does it always have to be F/game/007/game contents or where you using that as a 007 game example.

i got the movies and emulators working but like i said before with that Fighting Jam game its not working(and i've only tried that one game) here is how i set that up F\games\fighting_jam\fightingjam.iso

when i go to games it shows all the way down to the fighting jam folder, then i open it and i can't access the ISO file. Were you saying it should be F\games\007\fightingjam.iso? I doubt it but i guess i never know........

F:\blah\blah\ was used as an example. As for what I was meaning on the extraction part, you cannot launch an iso directly from a modded xbox. Either the ISO needs to be burnt to a disc & played directly, or you need to extract the contents of the ISO (the files and folders structure contained inside the ISO in it's entirety).

DVD2Xbox will copy the game from the DVD and dump all the files directly to the HD or there are a myriad of programs for the PC that can do much the same with an ISO image. A good howto can be found here - http://www.xbox360scene.com/articles/extract-iso.php

Thanks. The xISO works like a charm, does just what I want it to do. I'm working the emulators right now, the first Sega one i DL'd was trash. Do you guys have any reccomendations as far as emus go (I got Game Boy NES SNES SMS N64 and PSX) ie which program is the best emulator? Other than that thanks again, this is pretty sweet, dont know why i never did it sooner I've had this old XBOX lying around for years, thinking about buying another incase this one ever kicks the bucket, after all the work i put into it i'd be P!$$ed, lol. Later fellas.

Ok so I read Atlus's comment about the chimp method and went and looked it up. I read the tuts for it and gave it a go. Like Atlus i had the problem where the HDD gave a call system repair error so I went to do what he did and put the original back in and run chimp again. However now when I disconnect the DVD drive after chimp is open, my xbox freezes.

So you have chimp running, w/ the dvd loose (but not all the way out) you load chimp, unplug the dvd drive and the box freezes? If the original HDD still works try removing and then re-installing chimp, maybe it's a little mucked up from the first go still.

I reinstalled chimp, loaded it up to test that it was working before I got everything to try again and discovered that it freezes after being open for a couple seconds.

I feel bad for having to post here but i've run out of things to try. I'm trying to upgrade my stock softmod HD to a spare terabyte i had laying around. However i keep getting an error 13 after I restore the drive.

Edit:
I had a bad IDE cable. Replaced it and everything is working fine now.

To be honest I have never even heard of chimp method..... I did research though and found that http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt21718.html the chimp method freezes any xbox version 1.6

you can in fact use chimp on 1.6 via telnet http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-255.html

Once again I have not even heard of this this is just research I have done

My suggestion in changing hard drives to anyone is this method http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/533828 this is xboxhdm 1.9 method I have used it on over 20 xbox systems with no problem. The best part is that you have a backup disc if anything ever goes wrong you merely reinstall the files onto the drive using the disc. When i mod for my friends I always give them their backup disc and tell them if they have problems to bring me the system with the disc.

*** Please read those threads thoroughly as to avoid any problems BEFORE you attempt ***

If you have anymore ?? let me know....

Chimp doesn't freeze to a green screen for me, it loads up then freezes after a few seconds when it's loaded. It worked fine the first time so it's not due to a 1.6 xbox.

Also the computer method wont work for me, seems it doesn't work with newer computers.

yeah, P4's dont seem to work, PIII's are so easy to come by though, and I use one solely for upgrading hdds or if I need to repair error codes I can slap the disc in and reinstall all the files, wipes most all error codes
Sorry i cant help ya with chimp though...never used it before
Try looking up Chunkhead's tutorials here on AD... he has a page that has almost everything that has to do withxbox systems...

There I made it easy for ya as I keep that page on favorites...
