dvd shrink runing slow!!! need help!

hey everyone I have a dell pentium 4 (2.70umthing GHZ) heres what happened I had a western digital 120gb "ide" hard drive in it but I bought a 200gb maxtor "sata" hard drive. When I had the old hard drive my pc use to go about 7000-8000kbs when encoding but with the new hard drive it goes about 3500-4000kbs the new hardrive is suppose to be better because of the specs I just cant figure out whats going on. I should also note when I turned off the ativirus is when I achieved these speeds on the old drive. Now however I have At&t dsl with their ativirus I turn it off but no change.

If someone has any suggestions or knows whats going on let me know ASAP thnx for taking a look

never mind everybody I figured it out if anyone has this problem just disable your firewall and it will run 2x as fast only when making a backup still thanks for looking now im backing up at 8000-9000kbs encoding yeahhhhhhh!
