This isn't really a hack, just something that I noticed a while ago actually. I was hanging out with my friend in my back yard and he had his controller with him. While talking we noticed that the controller was communicating with something in out area because it had be assigned a controller location when the "PS" button was pushed...

I hadn't read that far into the manual yet so I didn't know that you could turn on your PS3 from the controller itself. We were outside able to communicate to my PS3 inside at more than 60ft away!

This gives me ideas as to how i could go war driving in rich neighborhoods to screw with people's PS3's. HELL YEAH. I'm going to write how long it takes for me to communicate with my PS3 and how many ups and downs it takes to turn off a PS3 in play and at rest.

I'll come back with more info when I'm done.

doesn't work like that. You can only turn on your PS3 with that remote. Remember when you had to put in the USB cord the first time? That was your controller syncing up with the PS3, allowing you to turn it on/off wirelessly. So inordr to be able to turn on another PS3, you'd have to sync your cord up with said PS3.

Yo!

Hey this is just something i noticed not something that I was preaching. This can lead to other things. Blutooth is the what these controllers are based on.

All i need to do is get a usb blutooth network adapter and run a scan through all the ports that the PS3 has open. When I figure that out I can war drive with my laptop smartass...

It is not as easy as port sniffing to be able to communicate with a PS3. I am not actually as familiar with bluetooh as I'd like to be, but I am a certified wireless technician and have professional experence with wireless devices. I'd imaging that each controller has its own specific MAC address, hence the the controller needing to be directly connected to the PS3 to aquire this address.

I will do some research with a friend of mine on possible MAC address spoofing, pardon the term if it is incorrect. I do know that security is more advanced on bluetooth, than wi-fi due to the overwhelming about of bluetooth devices currently available. If anyone has information on spoofing of this nature please PM me. I'll post what I find here.
