This is so dissapointing.
This is a great collection of games here (man, i really wish they threw ToeJam & Earl in! but that's being picky), but i really, really wanted this to boot off of HDloader, and so far, in all 3 modes (or none at all) that isnt the case, just locks up with sonic in the corner not running at all. Heartbreaking.
Please say someone else has had some luck, or knows of a patch. Ill uh, buy you a beer or something. Even if youre underage, i dont care! just help me relive 16-bit nostalgia here, i implore you.
Thanks in advance for any help offerend, of course.

I havnt got the game so cant really try it.
But on other forums other people say it works with no modes, and others say it works with mode 2 with HDL 8b. Then saying that. Other people also tried those modes and nothing worked :)

should i then try just deleting & reinstalling it? does it matter that im using an older HD loader, cause ive got a newer version on my swap-magic ultimate disc, but ive never heard of a game being installed/working on one version and not the other.

its this disc came with my fliptop; its got a menu for swap magic, HD loader advance, few other programs ive yet to figure out.
I guess i can uninstall it & try again with advance, any confirmation on others who've had better luck on newer versions? i recall being told that i should stick to whatever version i formatted/have been using, not sure that's true.
more importantly: has anyone been able to get this game to work in any (or none) modes? i guess ill try 2 again as well.

gonna try today with HD Advance, here's to hoping.
im really lost here, i thought this game'd be mad popular, but even a google search for Sega Genesis Collection + HD loader, or patch, brings up nothing...which tells me either everyone else has it working fine, or no one's tried yet? i know there's a lotta good games right now, but some of us are stuck in last-gen, dammit!

I've tried a number of modes and nothing works for me.
No Mode, Mode 1, Mode 3, Mode 1&3, Mode 123, Mode 12, Mode 23 Mode 2, Mode 12345678, Mode 34, Mode 5, Mode 6, Mode 7 , Mode 8
I've read that it works with SwapMagic but I really want to have it run with HD Advance... please help

Yeah, same here - tried HD Advance today, and all kinds of mode combinations in HD Loader...nothing yet, just locks up on the intro screen where it says "now loading" and poor sonic's in the right corner, not moving...
ill keep looking, but again, id greatly appreciate any ideas here.

I tried using the latest version of HDAdvance ELF file with MC Exploit and that doesn't work either, also tried Zoneloader but it freezes on the second or third screen going into the game, could be because of media though so I'll use a diff media and try again.
Waiting for my SwapMagic 3.8 Coder... with update once I've tried it, hopefully it's in today !!

Finally got the game working with the newest version of HD Loader 8B, I used the MC Exploit way which works great! I can load HDAdvance or HDloader depending on what game I need to run. I suggest you search for Memory Card Exploit and how to install ELF files to you Memory Card.

ok, so, i just need to figure out how to do a memory card exploit and read ELF files off of it? Ive got some ELF reader program on my ulitmate swap magic disc thing, can someone point to a tutorial on this process? I dont even know what it does, nor how to pull it off.
im gonna check my HD Loader version # as well, but if nothing else, at leas ti know itll work, thanks a lot man.

Does you swap magic ultimate disc boot programs from usb sticks?
Cause you can put the latest patched hdloader 8b onto a usbstick, then use swap magic to run it...

? ill have to look into its options (its got a few, take a look when you can - it came from here: http://www.ps2cover.com/ultimate-swap.shtml ), but even if it does, im not sure what a USBstick is...could i just download the latest HD Loader 8b and swap magic that, if it doesnt boot?

Why not just install Pgen (Sega Genesis emulator for Ps2) onto your hard drive of your PS2 and then you can run all the Sega games you want

And how do you do that?? I have all the roms on my PC but could not for the life of me fugure out how to run it using the PS2. I've downloaded the PGEN in ELF format for my MC Exploit, what next or is there a better way?

Tutorial-PLAY PGEN & get roms on HDD MADE EASY
You need:
MYPS2.ELF http://www.sksapps.com/media/myPS2_v03.rar & exploit knowledge
to know the knife swap trick ( just to Install)
A blank CD-R
Or a USB Pendrive ( swap not needed)
Exploit MYPS2 on your MC
Once the MYPS2.ELF is on the MC, & launched , it will ask to create a partition after detecting the HDD.
You will need a partition big enough to put all your Roms & the PGEN.ELF on. (i chose 250MB, i have 145 roms@89MB)
After the partition is created, you will see " My Pictures", "My Files" & "My Programs" .
<< **STOP Here if installing by CD** >>
Just leave it at this screen, burning the cd is very, very simple it will only take a few mins.
Install from Pendrive
Put the PGEN.ELF & all the ROMs in a folder, (name it SEGA, or whatever you want).
Then copy the folder & paste it to your pendrive. Now put the pendrive in the ps2 & launch MyPS2.
Choose > My Files
Choose >Select Source, then mass: ( you will see the SEGA folder) select it {hit SQUARE},
[a selected file will be a pink color] Now scroll up till you highlight the 'Select Dest', hit X, Choose >pfs0: , (the "start copying" in the left menu should be lit)
Scroll up till you highlight "start copying" hit X button, copying starts
After its at 100%, your done!! You can skip down to Playing off HDD
Burn CD
Put the PGEN.ELF & all the ROMs in a folder, (name it SEGA, or whatever you want).
Open your burner, Select DATA CD, add the SEGA folder, & BURN
(((for WindowsXP: select the SEGA folder & right click, "send to" the drive your burner is on. Use the wizard )))
You left MYPS2 running, right?Good!
First, you need to swap the trigger disc for the one you just burned.
Installing Pgen & Roms
Choose > My Files
Choose >Select Source, then cdfs: ( you will see the SEGA folder) select it {hit SQUARE},
[a selected file will be a pink color] Now scroll up till you highlight the 'Select Dest', hit X, Choose >pfs0: , (the "start copying" in the left menu should be lit)

Eject the disc ,put the trigger disc back, restart the PS2 & launch the MYPS2 again
Playing off HDD
Load MYPS2
At the main screen Choose >My Programs<
Next screen Choose > Select ELF , then pfs0: ,then SEGA, then PGEN_12.ELF (or whatever yours is) Highlight the elf,hit X, it loads!!
PGEN Menu
Select ROM list.
Select MYPS2 {this is the HDD partition} then SEGA.
You should see all your games. The in-game Menu is the 'SELECT' button HAVE FUN !!!

tmfloria, youre awesome. as soon as finals are done this week, im gonna give this a go...just downloaded like 700MB+ Genesis ROMS, i cant wait to get this working. I hope its as easy as you say.
Few quick things:
1) What format does PGEN play? I have genesis roms in both .smd and .bin, i think it was. I hope this is like genocyst or whatever old one i was using where you could save at any time, and the framerate/sound was good too.
2) Are there any other systems that can be properly emulated on PS2 HD Loader? Id love to get NES, SNES, SMS etc loaded up!

Pgen works awesome mate.
Snes station is for SNES roms if you want to try that.
And Infones if good for NES roms.

I use .smd files for Sega Genesis, and .smc for the NES emulator. Action Replay Max has a utility that makes the Sega Genesis play right off a flash drive, so I use a 2 GIG USB flash drive and run all the ROMs from there. They will read a CD too but no need if you have a flash drive. I have a newer slimline PS2 unmodified.
So far, I can run a program for SNES and get it onscreen, load the ROMs and see them run just fine, but the joystick/controller on my PS2 will not work on any of the games, and I have tried 3 versions of SMES Station...any ideas out there?
