Subject title just about covers my question, took me over two and a half hours each to burn two new discs, using Nero manually. Could any one please help.

Hi Joewho
Check and make sure all of your drives are in DMA mode and not the slooow PIO mode. Here's a guide

If you haven't very recently do a disc clean up and defrag too.

Thanks Binkie 7, what I really should have explained is the 2.5 hours specified per disc was from DVD Shrink to my HDD, burning time from Nero to copy was 8.5 minutes. It used to take me from 20 mins to 1hour for Shrink to burn to HDD and 6.5 to copy. Some of the technicalities are way over my head, do your same instructions still apply for slow burn to hard drive?

Yes - the same for the hard drive. If it's in PIO mode it would explain the time it's taking Shrink.

Check it out and let us know.

recentley my shrink has also slowed way down. It used to take like 20 min to perform the shrink application (encoding). Now it takes more than an hour. The burn only takes about 8 to 10 minutes. Checked both my dma's are on. I thought my pc was acting up, but it looks like other people are haveing this issue. Has anyone figured out a solid solution to this problem. Something must have changed in the shrink configurations. Cant remember if i had this problem before i did the shrink update. Thanks

Hey seadale
Hard drive and burners (optical drives) all show current transfer mode as DMA?

You can check shrink settings too. When you click backup - check the quality settings tab. Do you have either of these checked? Using these will take longer.

How about the disc cleanup and defrag? Do one very recently? The more fragmented a drive is the slower it gets.
