I have some mpegs from captured streaming TV video that I need to put on a DVD, so I used VSO's divx2dvd converter 1.09 but Shrink won't open the .VOB...which is what I thought Shrink did?

Have you tried opening the files using re-author tab in Shrink then dragging the title over?

Yes thank you, I did. And the same error message appears; "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid filename.
I have renamed the file repeatedly; 1.vob, help.vob, yoohoo.vob...but it will not open it. Hmmmmm.

Blessedon,
If the program did not when you converted include an .ifo file then Shrink will not open it. Sounds like the conversion did not happen properly. You need properly made files that include .vob's, .ifo's and .bup files

I appreciate the try MysticE, but it did not make an IFO for Shrink, even clicking "full dvd" - and Car.Mike must be right about that being the probllem.
Gspot even says the .VOB stream output by VSO is a DVD compliant one so I don't know why VSO isn't making a IFO but I sure don't know what to do now.
A friend of mine has Nero 7 Suite. I wonder if that program will convert my mpegs into DVD burnable material?

That did the trick, Dialysis 1 (if your moniker is associative then I feel for you as I have a friend who has to endure that twice a week), but, the "Create IFO" button went dormant when I loaded the .VOB but "Create ISO Image" gave me what I wanted, although I have not yet burned the image so I don't know how it compares to Shrink. Darn neat little proggy, I'll have to see if it has a donate link and explore it some more. Thanks!

I don't think that got it. There is a bit more involved.
The original author's guides appear to be lost.
Check this guide, scroll down to "Now start IFOEdit" and follow the procedure.

I have not read the guide yet but I shall today, and you're quite right..that did not "get it" as I later discovered when neither Shrink nor Decrypter (nor any other encoder I have) wanted anything to do with that file.
Eureka! I think I know why now (do I hear a DUHH) the file was given to me in a 352x480 size. TMPGEnc would accept it but the output was strobe-effect.
Let me start from scratch with a correct ratio and I'll get back.
Excuse me while I go find a rock to hide under...

Success is sweet if shallow. With the right aspect ratio, Shrink takes the converted mpegs just fine but,
Converting with the programs I have has limitations and I am going to need something else because VSO's DivXtoDVD does a wonderful video conversion but cuts the audio to nil, but I can force the 16x9 ratio that I need with it.
Cucusofts MPEG to DVD Author 1.09 does the audio and video fine but only allows the 4x3 ratio.
If there isn't a free mpeg to VOB converter I'm willing to pay but what do I get?

Thanks Car.Mike, I have that one but have not used it for awhile because the last time I used it (probably for a off-sized file as usual:) it pixelated badly.
Maybe I'll give it another shot.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Roses are blooming, the air is sweet and I can hear the birds singing past yon hill. Having now found the perfect solution to my needs in VSO's ConvertXtoDVD (not perfect but darn good) and worth the money.
Now all I need do is to do a destructive recovery on my hard drive because the damage done when I foolishly tried;
Cucusoft MPEG/MOV/RM/AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD/MPEG converter (Pro) v7.07
is beyond any repair built into Windows.
But hey, it's happened before, surely will again. I know what to do.
Thank you all.
I love you man!
