Hi peterttt
What version of Nero are you using? Like 6.6.0.18 or 7.5.0.9a.
May just need an update or uninstall and reinstall both Nero and Shrink.
Burner showing up under 'my computer' - just Shrink and Nero don't recognize it?

Ok update Nero to 6.6.0.18 - the last version of 6 to autoburn w/ shrink.
Package 1
Package 2 (recode, vision, showtime)
In Shrink go to edit>preferences>file i/o tab. The box should be checked for 'enable burning with Nero'
Now when you open Shrink check and see if the burner is listed in the drop down under 'select backup target' when you click 'backup'
Did you just install this drive?

Just to add on here in addition to what binkie has provided, but out of curiosity can you actually burn with other tools like ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter?

I've tryed other software and the software doesn't recognise the dvd writer. The funny thing is Nero recognise's the cd writing function of it likewise with other software. Because of this i don't think Nero or Shrink needs updated. So because of the CD writer being recognised i think it is maybe something to do with firmware.
If it is firmware any links would be helpful as ive no idea what im doing with firmware.
The computer that the dvd writer is in, is a new build if that's any help.

Run 'Nero Info Tool' from your Nero toolkit. It will tell you if it recognizes your drive and the firmware version.
An easy way to check and update firmware is to run DVDDecrypter.
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
Select 'Tools', 'Drive', 'Check for firmware update' and if you have an internet connection it will locate the latest firmware for your burner.

@peterttt
That's odd. Either ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter should be able to recognize any DVD-ROM or DVD-/+RW drives easily upon starting. Example below:
Quote: I 22:36:39 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started!
I 22:36:39 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)
I 22:36:39 Initialising SPTI...
I 22:36:39 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 22:36:40 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 2 DVD±RWs!
You've got most of AD's members trying to sort you here, I guess you must be really lucky, LOL.
Here's another suggestion, it might cost you a bit. If after updating your firmware and Nero, plus "uninstalling" your burner's drive and let Windows reinstall it for you and the problem still exist, then maybe it's time for a new burner.
Best of luck!!

You're welcome and no problem. LiteOn is not that bad (most of them cost around $35 - $60), and the best of all, it can (support) booktype easily whenever you're using any DVD+R, DVD+RW or DVD+R DL media.
Good luck hunting on your new burner!!
