Like someone else, my Shrink was working fine and then started having problems. MAJOR problems, as in it either shuts itself down or causes the entire PC to REBOOT. This is NOT an issue of encryption, as I have used both Decryptor and Fab Decryptor to rip the films.
I can play the disc image files using Shrink, but every single time I attempt to compress and burn, it fails usually crashing the system.
I've had DVD's not make it before, but I usually end up with an error message.
So, should I download Shrink and reload it again?

Hi Riphound
You can give uninstalling and reinstalling Shrink a go and see if that does the trick. DVD Srhink can be downloaded from aD - software section.
Shrink is pretty cpu intensive so pc getting enuf airflow? Cleaned out the dust inside the tower? May be overheating and this is one reason why the pc may shut down.
If you haven't very recently do a disc defrag. Also run a regsitry cleaner like ccleaner (free). Use the cleaner and issues options.

Two out of three apply:
I did clean off the tower, there was a fair amount of dust back there. I also uninstalled and then reinstalled Shrink.
Defrag would not make any difference - my HD is partitioned and the only things on that partitioned part (my "D:" drive) are always just the ripped or finished DVD files.
I tried to do another burn from disc image files (I saved them as such following the advice to do so from Scubapete's guide because it was episodic TV DVD I was trying to burn). I failed, but much further along the encoding process. It did cause the Shrink program to shut down and throw out a windows error message "Shrink.exe has encountered a problem and has been shut down."
So I tried another pass at it, this time reaching 91% encoded and getting the error message:
Programming error - exception occured
The parameter is incorrect
For the the "Select backup Target" I was using the ISO Image File and Burn with DVD Decryptor selection. Should I be using just the plain Burn with Nero (name of my Pioneer burner) instead?
However, it didn't shut down the Shrink programming itself (it seems to do this only about half the time). Shrink is the only program it shuts down like this. I used both DVD Decryptor and DVDFab Decryptor (which seemed to copy all the discs without a problem), and neither of them shut down.
I'm not sure if this is relevent, but last summer I decided to copy some discs I had made on a DVD recorder so a friend could catch up on the TV show episodes on them. Some discs it copied without a hitch, but others it would fail. Since these were DVD-5's, I was simply making 1:1 copies but using Shrink because I'm used to it. I eventually got them all copied, going back to the ones that had failed and retrying until it worked. Might have nothing to do with the current situation, but thought I should throw it out there.

Hmmm ok - ran the registry cleaner - sometimes there are conflicts and tis may help clean them out.
DirectX up to date - 9.0c?
DVDFab up to date? Latest is 3.0.5.0.
This error - Programming error - exception occured
The parameter is incorrect
This can sometimes happen when ripping a iso in decrypter and then using Shrink. May be the problem on this one. Re rip it in file mode - full movie - then open the files in Shrink.
Try the Nero burning in option - can't hurt.
Check all your drives DMA mode too - make sure it's on. Here's a guide.

How exactly do I check my DirectX version?
Any suggestions that don't involve re-ripping the discs? I seem to have "misplaced" them at the moment.
I can watch them using Shrink, so the files don't appear to be corrupted. Just wanted to try every option before I "go nuclear" and wipe them from the drives.

Go to start>run. Type in dxdiag.
In the system tab the version will be listed there.
If by chance you did 9.0c - you can get it here: MicroSoft DirectX.
Does the iso need compression? I'm trying to think of another program that will compress iso's.

My DirectX version is 9.0 (4.09.0000.0900)
There was no "c" designation. Is that shorthand for "version"?
Keep in mind, the failures are occuring when Shrink is attempting to encode/compress the files.
BTW - I do have DL discs. As disc image files is there a way to burn with just my Nero and/or DVD Decryptor?

Yes the 'c' is the version # so you do need a update it.
The number listed for your DirectX should be 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Shrink uses MS's DirectX - may just be for the preview screen.
You can also turn off the preview screen in Shrink and see if that helps. (edit>preferences>preview tab - uncheck 'enable video & audio preview')
Yes both Nero and Decrypter will burn an iso. If you still have the .mds file that Decrypter made when you ripped this dvd use that.
In decrypter go to file>mode>iso>write and pick the .mds or iso file.
You can also use the updated burner of decrypter which is ImgBurn. You can burn the mds or iso file with it.
