Hi, I have been surfing around trying to find the solution to this problem for about a week, but have been unable to find a fix on my own.

My backup times with DVD Shrink used to run around 20 minutes for a backup. My Nero burn times used to run around 15 minutes to burn the movied i had just backed up. Now they are running around and hour to back up a dvd and 45 minutes to burn the disk. I am very frustrated at this point.

The only thing that changed that i can think of was the fact that i downloaded a copy of AnyDVD. I was having a problem opening a disk for my sister who wanted a backup. I thought the slow scan and burn times were the disk. All of my scan and burn times are still running at 3 times as long.

The video preview on DVD Shrink has become very choppy vs the smooth picture I had before. When I burn with Nero my buffer level bounces from 98% down to the 10's and 20's%. before I would stay at 98% the whole time. Also, when i am burning EVERYTHING slows down. it is hard to type this post because I am burning right now.

Onto my specs, then onto what I have done.

Windows XP
AMD Anthalon(tm) XP 2600+ 2.06Ghz
1.0 GB of RAM
128 GB free hard drive space
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-108 disk drive
DVD Shrink 3.2
Nero Smartstart 1.0.1.27

Primary IDE channel Properties:
Device 0
Device type: Auto Detection (not changeable)
Transfer mode: DMA if avialable
Current Transfer Mode: PIO Mode (unable to change this)

What I have tried:
1. Shutting down all other programs and cleaning up my start menu.
2. Made sure my Hard drive had enough room (128GB)
3. Defragged the Hard Drive
4. Ran AVG 7.5
5. Ran Ad-Aware
6. Uninstalled AnyDVD
7. Uninstalled my DVD-RW Driver and rebooted
8. Ran "CCleaner"
9. Ran "DriveCheck" (successfully)

None of the above actions have helped. In fact, it almost seems like things have gotten worse.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get back to 20 minute scans and 15 mintue burns?

I will provide you with any more information you need. Just let me know how to find the information. I am no computer expert. I have picked up everything by trial and error, so navigating windows can sometimes be a bit confusing.

After even more reseach and thinking more about my problem, I figured it out.

I had to delete my primary IDE channel driver and reboot. Windows reinstalled the driver with Ultra DMA mode 2.

I shrank and burned one of my dvd's in about 30 minutes.

Thanks to all that have taken time out of their lives and replied to posts in the past and help complete strangers with their problems. There is a vast amount of information on this site.
