I was wondering if there is any way to transfer files (mp3, mpg4, etc.) to the PS3 using USB junk drives. I've tried, but it won't recognize the files, only the USB drive. Also, how do you put files onto an SD card? I've successfully transferred pictures using my SD card in my camera, but I don't know how to put music, movies onto it.

It says FAT. I didn't know the formatting mattered. Are there pros/cons of each format besides being compatible with the PS3. And which format does the PS3 read?

If you just plug in ur USB drive and ask ps3 to find your media...it will come up with jack....
Hit triangle ---> Display All ----> And choose ur media with the corresponding tab (like Music below the music tab )

It worked! That's awesome. Finally I can put video/pics/music on my PS3. Sony should really get that bug fixed in an update soon.

Anubis helped me out on this.
It seems that if the USB drive is formatted in FAT, and you don't want to have to press triangle to see all the files, you have to create some kind of a structure within the drive. For example, if you want mp3s to show up in the music folder on your ps3, create a folder on your USB drive called "Music". Same thing goes for "Photo" and "Video".
This way you can organize your files on PS3 too. For instance, any subfolders you create in the core folders (music, video, photo) will show up on your PS3, and you'll be able to navigate through them.
