I am trying to find out if anyone else is having the problem i am? I have a new ps3 plugged into a toshiba 1080i projection tv. I see a shadow all the way across the screen that moves vertically. It is visible on the xmb screen, when playing a blue ray movie, and slightly visible when playing a game. I have tried all ps3 display settings, along with component and the standard cables, I have also tried 4 different tv's with the same result. I called sony they sent me a new ps3, tried it with the same results. I cannot beleive that these horizontal shadows are "normal" with this system. The system comes with standard rca jacks in the box and I realize the graphics will be crappy with that cable, but what's with the shadows? My ps2 didn't have the picture quality of course but it didn't have lines like an old tv your parents used to own. My tv does not have hdmi input, but once again sony has never stated that this unit isn't compatible with rca jacks, or component video jacks. IS ANYONE ELSE NOTICING THIS PROBLEM?

I have satellite but I can't imagine the fix is that easy as you would think sony would have been able to tell me that info. I have also tried it on other tv's

by moving vertically do you mean horizontal lines moving up? i have that, but it is only because im using a crt, and so are you in a sense. the mostly solid-color darker backround of the ps3's xmb makes the crt's faults stand out. on an lcd HDTV i dont get this.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

got it fixed it was a grounding loop issue, take a 3 to 2 prong adapter plug the ps3 into it and then plug into the socket, anyway the fix is on the ps3 forum, when i searched horizontal shadows...i will try to post the link if anyone wants it....

it could be the signal was being interfeared by the grounding but i dont know how. try making sure you plug the ps3 into a surge protector if you are using that adapter.

Boy, this is getting to be a big problem - lots of us suffer from these horizontal interference scrolling bars. The problem is that our household coaxial cables are running in proximity of our household electrical lines. The interference seems to be moderate if the lines cross behind the wall, or severe if the lines run parallel for any distance. Sony must have been aware that their units were more susceptible to electrical inteference than the PS2's, and I some how doubt that an online fix will be availabe for something external like this. They will have to come out with some type of filter (which should have been included in their bloody units) for this problem. I picked up a cheapie in-line coax filter and a signal booster, but wasted my money. Simply unplugging the cable from my cablebox everytime I want to game is idiotic at best, but appears to be the only solution for now, other than ripping down drywall and running a new cable........
As for the folks trimming off their grounding plugs to minimize their ground loop interference, they are an accident waiting to happen. We have minimum electrical codes for a reason people - plus the first lightening strike or power surge and you'll be tossing your brand new PS3 into the dung heap..........

I don't know about you guys, but my 3 year old 55" Widescreen SONY HDTV fully supported 720p and 1080i. I connect my PS3 60GB via HDMI (PS3) to DVI (TV) and I can play games, watch DVDs on either settings 720p or 1080i and it's amazing.
Since I don't have any issue with horizontal or vertical lines, I can't really comment on this part. However, have a look here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/434963
