Is it worth purchasing a PS3 right now? I am just trying to find out if it's worth purchasing despite some of the bugs people have been complaining about. If there are significant problems I need to know so I can weigh my options. Or should I wait and get a Xbox 360? I like both Xbox and PS so I juat want to get a straight up answer from someone who is not bias. Thanks!

I wouldnt suggest it.First of all the prices will go down wich is a plus, and also in may there will be a 80 GB PS3.And another thing is that more and more games will come out later,so just wait a bit until prices go down and more games coming out.Plus those bugs you talking about might be solved in a bit of time.

Thanks V! At least you are not being biased. So you suggest the 360 for right now?

What i would say is not to waste money on a xbox but atleast save it for the PS3.No point of buying a Xbox360 cause there will be great things for the PS3 soon, such as new games coming out fot it.

Well I wanted to have both consoles in my entertainment system. So that's why I am asking if I should get the Xbox 360 now or the PS3.

well if your ultimate goal is to have both, get the XBOX 360 now as it has way more games and wait for the PS3s price to go down

Well I just bought a 360 for my son even though I own a ps3, but having both systems it all depends on you and if you are patient because the are only a couple of good games on ps3 and good games coming out like motorstorm, hevenly sword, etc so if you are patient and have a solid game that will keep you busy until new games keep poping out then I would go with ps3. If not go with 360 they have great games (gears of war, deadrising, soon lost palent, etc) so if you plan on getting both you won't go wrong and have best games and best consoles OMHO.

Added- though one thing I hate about 360 is all the addons it has you have to by this and you have to buy that such bull if you ask me, but I bought it for a 5 yr old so it doesn't matter because he doesn't know. I bought just to play games and he would won't them in hd like I have the ps3 so if you want the top system for 360 make sure you get a premi cuz in long the run you'll get screwed. I would just like one price and have it all so it all depends on what you can afford and what you have as a tv. As for all the bugs nothing miner, one thing you should considered if you do buy a 360 is that MS has admitted that if you have bought a 360 made since jan 06 it will have overheating problems and are still trying to fix the problems. I bought mine with a replacement plan which you can also insure yourself that you will atleast that get another one if something happens to it. I have not played my sons and will have to wait until christmas but we will see how if goes.

tru003 if you want both consoles then go ahead and buy the XBox360, but there is no point of having two next gen consoles, you will just be spending money more money on it,Stick with my plan and wait a bit for a new and lower cost PS3,and if you are not satisfied with it(Wich You Will Be)Then get the Xbox360.

Real quick what's the difference between the reg 360 and the 360 premium?

360 core - wired controller no hd component cable or hdd(will need mem card 39.99 or if want backward capability need hdd which is 99$)

360 prem- wire less, component cables(hd ready), and hdd ( so no memory card)

In the long run you will spend more for core then premium, but if you want hd movies then another 200$ for HD-DVD which I think is a waste of money being that it should have been in a standard 360. So if you do have a hd tv I would then suggest a ps3 for it having blue-ray player and a game system, but again that's your choice and another if you do want to play online another $60 for gold membership.

if you can handle waiting a little while for all of the true benefits of a PS3 and get by now with whats out there, yes get a PS3 because in the long run I think the PS3 will be an overall better system and better value.

So what's wrong with getting both? Get the 360 now and then the PS3 when the price comes down and the games mature. Thanks!

Forget the 360, you dont need it;the console itself has no point in it.

I am not sure this is worth anything, but when i bought my ps3 at Wal-Mart I spent an extra $28.00 or so for some 2 year return policy thing... The manager was not exactly clear about all the details, but I was told that for the extra money I could return the console for any reason within 2 years.. I figured... what the hell it is only $28.00. I was thinking of these exact scenarios... games releases, console problems, console upgrades etc.... Might be worth checking into.. I need to check into it more, but the thing was so new the manager was not exactly sure, hell even if it is an extended warranty it would allow you to trade in a year or two old machine for the newest release....

Naw, I don't care about the Wii. I stop playing Nintendo back in the 64 days. I will never go back to Nintendo. I just want a straight up answer from people that are not showing favoritism for the PS3 or the Xbox 360. I was looking at purchasing one or the other for the holidays. So I wanted to find out more information on both of them. It just seems like there are so many people that are fans of PS will say get the PS3 and Xbox 360 sucks. Then you will have fans of XBox that will say the same thing. I am neutral when it comes to these platforms. I just want to get the one or the other right now. So that's why I wanted to talk to some people who are neutral just like me. I also notice that the HDMI cable is a whooping $100. That's another thing that is throwing me off with the PS3. Thanks!

well, you can certainly find reasonably priced cables at monoprice.com and they sure as hell don't cost $100. ebay is always another option, just something to consider...

when it comes to considering which console you should get, it really shouldn't matter what we tell you about them as we are not you. sure what we say may impact what you think about the systems, but you really should concentrate on finding out which console is going to fulfill your gaming needs and really make you happy from day one....

In the same vein as Hade's post, you need to look into the systems for yourself and find out which would better suit you.

The PS3 is brand new. There are few games. Look into the games, the upcoming games, and what you'll ultimately get out of it.

The 360 is a year old, has lots of games. Again, look into them and compare for yourself.

I recommend gametrailers.com. Run a search filtered by system, and compare titles and upcoming titles.

I can tell you that outside of a PS3 forum, anywhere you ask this question you're going to get a "360 onry" response. If you haven't seen this, check it out: http://nexgenwars.com/

The 360 has sold 9,000,000 consoles, to the PS3's 500k. If you were to ask a forum to compare games- 360/PS3- you'd get a very one-sided 360 win. There aren't enough PS3s out there yet. Most of the replies you'd receive would be 360 owners, who had watched a video demo of the PS3 game and made their judgements. It's not so much bias as it is a market share situation.

I'd personally recommend a PS3. I own one, and I do not own a 360. I was in the same boat as you, so I looked into the differences between the systems and the game aspect. I saw titles like Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid, Lair, Devil May Cry 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Warhawk, Motorstorm(I've played the demo more times than I can count), Virtua Fighter 5, Gran Turismo HD, Resistance: Fall of Man, to name a few.

Of course, buying a PS3 over a 360 meant I wouldn't get titles like purl=http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=2485]Bullet Witch[/url], F.E.A.R. 2, Halo 3, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Gears of War, The Godfather, Saints Row, Dead Rising, Mass Effect, etc.

Then there are of course games that will be on both consoles. A good example of this is sports franchises. Let's not forget the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed, or for example Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, or Need For Speed: Carbon or even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hehe.

For me, the PS3 list was irresistable. Sure, I won't get Gears of War, or Halo, or Lost Planet, but I couldn't go without MGS, and Heavenly Sword, Lair, are all major titles in my eyes.

The most important thing, in my opinion, at the moment is: are you patient? The PS3's great and all, but it only has about twenty games out right now. Are you willing to wait a couple months for titles like Lair, Motorstorm, etc. to hit the market?

If you buy a 360, you're buying a system that's been out for a year, has come down in price, and has a huge variety of game titles to choose from. If you buy a PS3, you'll probably get a game or two you enjoy, but before Feb/March '07 you won't have too many titles in your grasp. Personally, I have Ridge Racer 7, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Fight Night Round 3, and I'm enjoying them all tremendously.

Yes, I am absolutely biased. I love the PS3, I loved the PS2. To me though, it all comes down to what you're ultimately paying for. I got myself a Blu-ray player, a gaming console, and everything I'll need to play the titles I'm most excited about (see: PS3 title list). if I had gotten a 360, I wouldn't have HD-DVD capability without paying extra, and while I'd have more games to choose from, I'd not have MGS, I'd not have Heavenly Sword, I'd not have Motorstorm. Is it worth buying a PS3 right now? Maybe. Maybe not. Look into what you can use it for right now, and decide for yourself.

I wouldn't buy both consoles, unless you're just overflowing with money and are looking to blow it all. I personally have not experienced any bugs or glitches with my console.

If you look into the games and consoles and decide you're more interested in the PS3, but interested because of the games that come out next year, I'd say hold onto your money until they come out. Chances are it will have come down a little bit, and you can save some money- and put it towards more games hehe.

If after researching, you're more interested in the 360, by all means buy one now. It already has alot of games out, it's been around for a year so they've had more time to work on the software, and you can get cracking on your games right away.

Sorry if the post is a little long, but I read through the thread and found it interesting, and I wasn't doing anything else so I put a fair bit of time into my post...here's one last thing I found very interesting: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/427026#2598509

Once you buy all the add-ons, an HD-DVD player to go with your 360, and consider their fee for online use (vs. PS3's free network), you end up spending more for the 360 than for the PS3. I thought it was interesting, anyway.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Didn't wanna edit my post since I worked ever so hard to make it nice, but...

Today, Christmas Eve, December 24, the Playstation Store released a Gran Turismo HD feature. I've only done one time trial so far, but on my 720p TV, the opening video alone was enough to induce involuntary pant soiling. The picture is very, very nice, and it looks like Logitech worked really closely with them because all their steering wheels are noted in the options menu, you just select the one you have, if applicable.

On a side note: the music in this demo/feature/whatever is very jazzy/christmassy lol...festive.

Thanks to all of you. Pangy and Hade I appreciate the help. Best Buy out here in the Tampa area has been getting multiples of PS3's. People have been buying them left and right. I got both consoles (PS3 just in case they receive anymore until sometime next year). All I have been doing the past couple of days is comparing the two. So If I was to stick with the PS3 monoprice.com is where I need to look for the hdmi? Is there a particular type that I would be looking for? Or just any hdmi?
