DVD Shrink Backup Gets Blocky and Distorted

I have successfully backed up several movies on DVD-R media using DVD Shrink in full and re-author mode, and Nero Express 5.5 to burn. My problem is that I encounter some DVDs that play fine until about half way through the movie and then starts to get "blocky" and distort on my standalone player that plays my other backups fine. These problem DVDs play fine on my computer.

My friend can back his up with DVD+R and not seem to have this problem, and they play fine on my player even when I record his DVD+ to a DVD-.

Do I need to switch to a DVD+ burner, or do I have another problem?

All DVD's will generally play fine on computers and not on sandalones. What is the DVD player you are using and what are the discs you are using? How much compression do you have on the disc?

I tried Scarface movie only on a #5 compression (which is about 30%) four or five times and had the same problem. This morning I tried it on #6 which I think is 35% and it played perfectly on my GoVideo DVD standalone. I am doing the same procedure every time, but can't get consistent results. I defrag now prior to ripping, but still get blocky chapters on certain DVDs. Can't seem to find common link in my problem.
