i just got a call from FYE saying that the next 60g ps3 they get is mine. I was wondering if i have to buy the official ps2-ps3 controller adapter, or if i could just get a ps2-pc adapter and plug it into the usb ports, because i dont feel like paying 50$ for a controller

i have two sixaxis controllers so i can't really say from experience, but this is what i came across. hope it helps
Quote: 1. Plug in your PS2 controller using a PS2-USB adapter
2. Turn it on and make sure the analog button is on (the red one )
3. Set your sixaxis control as player #1
4. When the game starts up, Press the "PS" Button as instructed by the system
5. Wait until the actual game comes up and turn off the Sixaxis...
You dont have to unless its required....like fighting games, but for
some games the person that presses start is Player 1
Now it should be working fine and rumble and everything should work perfectly
Side note:
To get the Duelshock controller to work with PS3 games...dont know why you would want to....but if for some crazy reason you want to....at the XMB make sure the PS2 controller is in and plugged in like i said...pick the game.....and lol it should be working just fine...HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE ANALOG BUTTON IS ON...OR ONLY THE BUTTONS WORK...nothing else
full use of the guitar for guitarHero does not work. hope this helps

yeah my main reason is that i have alot of dualshocks and want to be able to use them, as opposed to spending 50$ on a controller

This maybe doesn't belong here(don't know whether to ask on the PlayStation 2 or PlayStation 3 side), but I have the same question, the other way around. Can you use a SIXAXIS controller on the PlayStation 2 through the USB port?

Oh, sweet, I was looking to see when Guitar Hero comes out on the PS3 and I found this on IGN! It looks like the USB to DulShock will work with the PS3!

November 10, 2006 - If you plan on picking up a PlayStation 3 anytime soon and are worried about the dent that the system and its peripherals will put in your wallet, you may want to consider picking up some USB adapters for the PS2's Dual Shock 2 controller. These relatively cheap adapters are made for using a Dual Shock 2 on a PC, but they seem to work quite well with every PlayStation 3 game that we've tried. You need to switch on the analog button when you plug them in and they're missing the PlayStation button that brings up the Cross Media Bar, but other than that they seem perfectly functional.
With that, we assumed that Guitar Hero and its sequel would work perfectly well on the PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. When you pop in a PS2 or PSone game, you're prompted to tap the PlayStation button on the controller. For what reason, we're not sure, but as Guitar Hero's SG controller doesn't have this button, you can't actually activate it. You also can't quick-swap from one controller to another as the second part of the problem lies in that you need to turn on analog control, but again, the SG guitar doesn't have an on/off button for analog play.!
I think I am going to go buy Guitar Hero Now and pick up one of these adapters!

Maybe I'm just confused, but didn't that article say that guitar hero controllers currently don't work with the PS3, even if you do get the PS2 USB adapter?
