The burners seems to be ok. I tried Nero and it burned the DVD+R DL just fine. But I keep getting the red screen. Oh and the image size when mounted is still 5,189,920

i 'didn't know how to put my original gt4 onto hdd so i downloaded a torrent file - Gran Turismo 4 [PS2][PAL][DVD9][Multi5][www.pctorrent.com], i want to know if this is for hdd or to burn onto DL disc, when i open the image everything seems to be on the first layer and if i try to go to the second layer with Apache2 it says "You can only switch layers with a DVD9 ISO", even the GT4L1.VOL which is meant to be on the second layer is on the first layer. the ISO image is 5.23GB.

I know this may be a silly question but did you apply the patch. What version is ur ps2 and what mod chip...the dvd 9 of this game requires the patch from toxic in order to use it....Some mod chips have had problems. If you are getting the red screen of death i suggest you look at some of the configurations other users of this forum have encountered after burning to dvd9. go back a few pages.
May I bring to the attention the need for a specific thread for these questions...i.e should we start one, what to name it, is it a good idea. I am sure there would be plenty of people who would want to bag me for this but I think it neccesary. I dont want people jumping on me regarding the current content of this thread and why I shouldnt be answereing these types of questions in here.
I would invite some constuctive critisism so we might be able to start a new thread that is useful....
no offense t1nemesis just that this is moving away from the thread a little and I am sure someone will eventually abuse me for it...

HEY GUYS I DID IT!!!I FOUND A WAY TO BACK IT UP,I USED A Toxic Dual Layer Image Patcher RELEASED BY SOME CLEVER GUYS.AFTER BURNING 3 DVD-DL IN VAIN I FINALY GOT ONE THAT WORKS ,I BURNED A DVD-DL PHILIPS WITH A ASUS DVD WRITER,WORKS PERFECT.
SO THIS THREAD CAN BE PUT TO SLEEP.REST IN PEACE.
It`s nice to be important,but it`s more important to be nice.

Hey,got my ps2 back,(v9 silver) fitted with ghost2 modchip.
Created iso image with DVD Decrypter set to read at 2x and book type set to dvd-rom.Patched it with toxic patch and burnt with DVD Decrypter at 2x.
WORKS PERFECT!!

I'm wondering if this is the media you guys are burning your toxic-patched .ISO onto:

Can anybody confirm this? I don't want to buy the wrong medium since these DL-disks are pretty fucking expensive..

Jakkal,That media will do the trick.
DVD decrypter set at 2x read 2x write.Don't forget' set the book type to dvd-rom if possible though Iv'e heard dvd+dl has worked too.

sharky it looks like what you downloaded is a flattened image because all the data is on one layer. that simply won't work because when you burn it, it will have to be spread across 2 layers and the layer break will be in the wrong place.
make an iso of your original disk image. no offence, but if you don't know how to do that then backing up anything is beyond you. so just get DVD Decrypter and figure it out. will take you 5 seconds to learn
and jakkal - yes that's the verbatim media everyone's talking about. i don't think verbatim make more than one type of DL media. personally i used Datasafe media which cost me £2.50 a disk, it worked on my mates DMS3, but not my Magic 3.1. someone said yesterday that they used Verbatim and it worked on their Magic 3.1 so i'm going to try some of that next. if Verbatim works on Magic 3.1 it will work on anything

DONT try to burn the mounted image. Open a dvd authoring program and then tell it to copy the disc that you have mount. The authoring program will only see 3.09 Gb and make an iso or img of that. Then with the same program burn the image you have just created and THERE YOU ARE.

t1nemesis,and everyone,nero's pretty good for normal data,music disks,but i'd use alcohol/dvddecrypter to burn games,also a program called css+region free(think it's made by poilksoft),it runs in the background and removes certain protection's that sometimes cause problem's like macrovision+css(works for movie dvd's a charm as well in case anyone's had problems)

for those of you with a mod chip who did a copy of gt4 originally (on a dvd9) and just got to the loading screen,you can save yourself another dvd9,by:
extracting the image from the copied dvd9 using dvddecrypter,apply the toxic 1.0 dvd dl patch,mount the image on a virtual drive(ie.alcohol),burn the image on a dvd5(it'll only be 3.09 gb),then when it comes to playing,use the dvd5 to boot(until the screen goes blank and freezes) and then insert your copied dvd9,the toxic patch will be applied with the dvd5 and will allow the dvd9 to play,i'm playing it now off the unpatched otp dvd9!! Hi everyone first ever post. Managed to do a perfect backup copy of my gt4 game using this thread. If it helps i used decrypter and the toxic dl patch and burnt at 2.4 speed on traxdata dl+r. Works an absolute gem. Just wanna say thanx to all the people who had a hand in solving this you guys are ace!!!!!!!!

i beat the game i sent it back. glad it plays itself. has anyone tried toca race driver? seems like an ok game to me. harder then gt4 but much easier to backup.

I did a image with alcohol and the patch didn't work but the image with DVD Decrypter worked why?

I have a silver v10 ps2 with messiah 1.33b modchip and it doesn't work. I patched strike PAL gt4 release with toxic patcher and then burned to traxdata dvd+r9 dl it with DVD Decrypter at 2x speed. It seems like my ps2 doesn't even recognize the disc nothing happens it just puts me in the browser menu.

Last night I burned GT4 with Sonix's new Toxic Patcher and I burned the game with Nero on a DVD9 and the game works perfectly. I am using the DUO 2 SE Modchip and I think this patcher tool only works with modchips as of now but I could be wrong also my PS2 is V9 so this helps too.
I also burned Xenosaga and it works like a charm.
=)

Use Verbatim DVD9s they are the best and not a bad price as of now 3 for $20 at CompUSA
