After many many tries,
Here?s how I made a backup copy of my new DVD ?Saw 3?.

1. Start with Ripit4me version 1.6.4.0. (free download)
2. When the program tries to use DVD Shrink (part of it?s process) it encounters an error.
3. Close the program and open DVDfab decrypter. Point the source box (top) to wherever you copied the ripit4me files. I highlighted main ?movie only? on the left side of the program. Press start, let it run to end.
4. Close program and now open and use DVD Shrink to backup the files.
5. Burn files with Nero or any burning software.
6. Enjoy.

it's nice to see the newbies contributing too.

Your small guide is fine, but to make it even better i suggest you add screenshots,it will also make things clearer.
:)

PS: you can also use the glorious DVD Decrypter called DVD Decrypter.

I swear--I can guarantee that I will not run into any problems with this movie.

I'm with Mr Pink when it comes out around here (Jan 23) I'll buy it (extra disc and cover from FutureShop) and will have it backed up the same night. By the way the wife and I saw the movie when it was out in the theater and we both loved it.

It's already been shown that RI4M can do Saw 3 by itself without DVDFab Decrypter and DVDFab Decrypter doesn't need RI4M. Plus AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 have been doing the job as well.

Lots of people don't need help; but that's no excuse for them to take the mick and ridicule you for trying to help. Thank you for your contribution. Maybe when you become more experienced yourself, you can produce guides for ripping and burning any movie. There are lots of methods, and it's whatever works for you, IMO.

Stick around ccblazer, don't let the more ungrateful of the community keep you away.

Thanks for the encouragement. I plan on hanging around. Those kind of people just need to be ignored. As they say, if you have nothing positive to say, well...

Since I'm the one who said the world needs no more Saw 3 threads, I must be the one being maligned. There was no ridicule involved. It was also not negative. It was a simple fact. Look at all the Saw 3 threads in the Shrink section alone and Saw3 hasn't been officially released yet. We all appreciate the good will and the desire to help. That's what we're all here for. But some topics get worn out. Hang around and you'll find there's a lot of friendly folks around that appreciate your being here and helping out. I'm not an old timer here yet, but from one relatively new AD member to another, welcome to the forum and keep up the good work.

But please, no more Saw 3 threads. LOL Just kidding. If you think there's a need do as many as you like.

Ripper, bunny C and ccblazer

I'm not putting down ccblazer, just giving some constructive criticism of the info presented. For the sake of beginners who don't understand the process, that's how it works. This is the newbie section and that's what we're here for, to try to help them get it right.

Ripit4me incorporates DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and FixVTS in doing a DVD backup. The first part of the process is decryption and removing the copy protection, along with processing for compliance as needed. There RI4M uses DVD Decrypter and creates PSL files for doing the processing. Then RI4M cleans up the IFOs and uses FixVTS to process for compliance as needed. Since Saw 3 was more difficult it set off warnings and the program would stop with a warning. Clicking OK continues the process and the program completes successfully. Once the quick analysis is done to check the files for compliance in Shrink, the files can be transcoded in Shrink or processed in another program. For the official guide and "how to" here's the link to the RI4M site and guide. http://www.ripit4me.org/guide.html

Like I mentioned DVDFab Decrypter which decrypts and removes copy protection was just recently updated especially for the Saw3 release. Rip with the latest DVDFab Decrypter and process with the transcoder or encoder of choice.

Step 2 and 3 of the guide needs work. When the software opens in Shrink it's for the purpose of checking compliance. At that point the files should be run through FixVTS if not already done. Paschal93 showed the log for this one in the "big" Saw 3 thread here in the Shrink forum. So, it's already been proven that RI4M correctly processes the Saw 3 files. Step 3 is just abandoning one software for another. So the part about opening in RI4M was unnecessary unless just saying it didn't work and DVDFab Decrypter was selected instead.

That's the big Saw 3 thread if anyone wants to add to the body of knowledge. It's about 6 or seven pages already and the end result is that Slysoft and DVDIdle software along with the RI4M setup are good for backing up Saw 3.

No problem. I could have phrased my comment a bit better. But if you run a search, you'll find an outrageous number of Saw 3 posts and the DVD isn't officially released till Tuesday. The big software companies and even the freeware like RI4M are ready for it. I shudder thinking about the posts we're going to see next week. The solution to Saw 3 is pretty much making sure the software is up to date.

Since I'm the one who started this lengthy discussion I suppose I should finish it. (at least I hope I finish it)
My intentions were good, that's all.

Oh, more important, Saw 3...
Awful gives it justice, but that's for a different type of forum.
You won't hear me speak of it any more. (at least in a good way)

We congratulate you for your effort and good intentions and hope you continue to show an interest. Don't let this little discussion bother you. No one meant any harm and if a newbie wanders in, there's enough info to be useful. ThatS what counts most.

I saw the ad, the extra disc is exclusive to FS. One is on "the horns of a dilemma"......if it has all this encryption and not going to work in my player why bother? By buying I'm supporting this nonsense, by not......well. Whether one buys or rent, one has to use software to make a working disc....I am not going to buy X player so I can watch Y disc.....this is really getting to be total crap!

The copy protection has nothing to do with the original's playability in a player, standalone or PC or for a well made copy. If it's in Blu Ray or HD DVD, I'm not sure what's there. What happens is that the copy protection is altering the files so the recording software can't deal with it. So far the studios have wasted a pile of money. I've not heard of any releases that have gone uncopied.

Hmmmm, tell that to my standalone player. When it takes well over 1 minute to find and load every titleset, it becomes totally frustrating to the point of giving up. Please explain in simple layman's term why I am having problems playing orginals in the past year. The more encryptions, the more troublesome they have become. I am talking about ORIGINALS not backups.

@PacMan777..nothing against you at all, but mackdl is right. The newer encryptions found on DVD's over the last two years do indeed affect the play-ability of newer DVD's particularly in older (2 to 3yr old)DVD players. I recently returned a SONY combo player DVD/VCR which seemed to be made of spare parts. This player would pixelate many original DVD's and reverse skip. Had trouble playing my back-up disc. Could not play Verbatim DVD-9 8.5 DL back-ups without freezing. Many claims of bad press disc that I've seen are on disc that have been heavily encrypted by either Macrovision's RipGuard or Arccos PuppetLock.

The electronics industry does not take this into account as technology is constantly moving forward and innovations in electronics continue at a rapid pace. I recently purchased in exchange for the SONY combo player the SONY DVP-71NSP which is equiped with what is advertised as a HDMI upgrade. The Player (though not disclosed as so) comes with newer HDMI plug that prevents you from decrypting the HD 720p/1020i signal as the previous plug or cable did. Funny thing is I don't have an HD TV or HD cable and I immediately notice the much improved DVD picture quality that one is lead to believe is only possible when this DVD player is connected to HD TV using a HDMI cable.

This forces me to wonder is the hidden objective here to get more people to use the newer decryptions blocking HDMI cable and also suggest that one dump their older TV monitor in exchange for the newer supposed improved HD TV picture? Can we say HD gimmick? This new SONY HDMI upscale DVD player strangely enough plays the best DVD picture I've ever seen...and how is this so if I'm not using any type HD connection or signal.:P
