I have not made any changes that I know about to my computer but suddenly DVD Shrink stopped working.

I tried to download an earlier version of Nero and I uninstalled and reinstalled shrink.

Still nothing. The moment the data is ready to burn I get this error message...

Is there an easy to understand way I can fix this. I have never had such a problem before.

Thanks AJMIA

You've got remnants of Nero 6.3.

You need to go to add/remove programs and get rid of Nero.

Then download nerocleantool 6 and download Nero again.Remember to leave out the incd packets-they can cause problems. Here's the link for cleantool 6:

Here's a link to the firmware, but your version 2.0T isn't even close to what this site shows:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837

Did you flash a hacked firmware,or crossflashed to get the 2.0T firmware?

These aren't exactly the highest quality media out there.

Did you change anything about your media before this issue occured?-Switching spindles, different speed rating, different format,or different brand name of media.

It sounds like your drive's firmware isn't programmed to handle them. Try upping the burn speed to 4x. I'll look around for some info on that current firmware version you have, but definitely rid all remnants of Nero off your pc and re-install. Your DMA's are still on,so that's good.

Thanks for responding to me...

This is what I have figured out...

I have an older emachines computer. a couple of years ago I installed a second HP dvd writer drive.

For some reason the original emachines drive is not burning DVD-R disks. It will only burn DVD+R disks.

If I flip flop the drives and copy from the emachines drive and copy to the HP dvd writer the DVD-R disks work just fine.

I did use the Neroclean tool to clean off Nero, but I do not think that was my original problem. I only downloaded the Nero updates when the drive stopped working with the new disks... so I cleared if all off and reloaded version 6.6.0.18.

That illegal disc error usually refers to the burner's firmware-in which your current firmware version is 2.0T

I still can't figure out what the 2.0T came from, since that site I posted listed your 2510A with different rebadged firmwares, none of them even close to 2.0T.

This firmware controls the writing strategy for your burners, players, and dvd-rom drives. It's the programming for your drive.
All media has an MID code, which the MID code for your blank media is CMC MA - G. AM3 . It reads that code, then the firmware tells the burner how it should be burned properly. If it's not programmed in the firmware,it'll kick out an illegal disc error, usually failing during the lead-in phase-so no actual burn took place. With newer/faster speed media coming out, some drives with old firmware aren't programmed to handle them.

The firmware is programmed by the burner's manufacturer. They have different media tested in their drive, compile information of how it burned/and put that info together for an update. Some manufacturers update regularly, others not.If a certain media is horrible in their tests, they'll program it so those drives won't be able to burn them. They also control the increments of burning-2x/4x/6x/8x etc,and even overburning- 8x media allowed to be burned at 12x and 16x. Vice versa as well- 16x media programmed to burn at 8x,4x,etc.

Your HP 530R is actually a re-badged Lite-on 832s,but with a different firmware version.VPSG is the latest firmware update for that HP drive. I couldn't find any info on that HP drive, but the LO 832s says it's dual format for single layer media. That should rule out that your HP drive is plus format only.

Firmware flashing: Firmware can be ligitimate,hacked-for booktyping/making it into another model#/bitsetting capability, and cross flashed-turning a rebadged drive like your HP into the Ligitimate drive-Liteon 832S.

Has that NEC drive ever had the firmware flashed, crossflashed,or used a hacked firmware?

A bad flash can ruin a drive.

The NEC 2510 has several rebadged models:
Mad dog
Fujitsu
Dell
and I/O Data, which each have a totally different firmware number sequencing. That's why it's critical to know your current firmware version and if there's a newer firmware update.

I will check out cdfreaks.com
They really know their firmware over there.

Edit: I just searched cdfreaks and that 2.0T was not listed:

I'm also getting the illegal disk errors. I have used Office Depot brand DVD-R 8x for a long time without problems. Now I realize I bought 16x by mistake. It will not burn with DVD Shrink. Any suggestions?

It decrypts fine, but when it starts the burn process (using Nero in the background), I get the error. I'm hoping it is a setting since it only starting when I changed from 8x dvds to 16x.

Look at the bottom of one of those discs that failed and see if any actual burn took place.

What's the brand name, model#,and current firmware version of your burner?

Use Nero infotool to find that info for us. That looks like a firmware issue. With all the 8x media being phased out,16x media is the majority out there and these no disc/illegal disc errors are getting more common.

We'll find the correct up to date firmware.
