i have a v14 ps2 and am v4 ps2 and am not sure as to which one to mod.im going with the dms4 ezi se pro for sure.im aware the slim one will need a external hard drive. is there a way other than usb to connectit? and is the a dms4 ezi for the v14 i heard there was and i heard there wasnt? thanks
im not rich but i sure as hell can live like it.

i would mod the V14 as it will have better performance than the old V4 will. Plus the V4 has the limitation that almost all of them will not read DVD+R where as the V14 should be able to read DVD+R or DVD-R
I think USB is about your only option with the V14. They have the HD Combo case for V12 and V13 but not V14
The V4 could take an internal hard drive so that would be it's only real advantage.

ya i like the idea of a internal hd.and i would like to get the ezi but i havent seen one for the v14.i heard from a friend that you could use 2 laptop hdds with a adapter on the v4.sopposedly its alittle faster loading times.any truth to this?
im not rich but i sure as hell can live like it.

with the hard drives you need an IDE type from Seagate or Maxtor
if you are doing the internal type.

the internal drive with have faster load times than an external USB drive. never heard of anyone using laptop hard drives

You may want to reconsider the EZI chip as its been known to brick many PS2's. You may also want to reconsider the DMS4 altogether as its known to be a very buggy chip hardware wise. The DMS team as all but vanished and no updates have been seen from them nor support for the products at there forum for just as long.
The Crystal Chip 2.0 however is still currently in development and is known to be a rock solid chip.

well hey man usually in this situation id think u were selling the crystal chip or something just becase i had read everywhere that the dms chips were the top of the line.but actually ive tryed the dms site latley and they really have dissapeared.so...crystal is the way to go?

Not a thing man! The Matrix Infinity is also a great chip with a team that is still active. The CC and MI are the only two chips on the market now worth considering in my opinion.

No, Toxic OS is only for DMS 4 Pro chips. You can use HD Loader for other modchips, just install it to a memory card.

Yes but if he is going to install this in a V14 then he will not be able to use HDL nor Toxic to back-up games to an USB HDD as both only work with IDE HDD's. V1-V10 have an expansion slot that can accommodate an HDD hooked up to the Sony Network adapter. V12/13 PSTwo's and have either HD-Connect or HD-Combo installed to accept an IDE HDD. V14/15 PSTwo's unfortunately has no IDE HDD soultion.
There is however USBAdavce/Extreme but this application is very buggy and only works with about 5% of all PS2 games and the 5% it does work with some still have issues.
With the V14/15 PSTwo's your better off just using high quality recordable media and playing your back-ups from disc.

well thank you guys for clearing that up for me.so i think ill go with the v4 put internal hdd in there.and as for the chip i think im gonna go with crystal.with that one id use hdl right?also any known problems with the v4?

Western Digitals will work, but because of the spacing of the power and data connections, you'll have to do a bit of modding on the network adapter. I did this to my brother's adapter and it works fine to this day.
AFAIK, any PATA hard drive will work with the network adapter as long as you can get the connector spacing lined up.
So far every Maxtor/Hitachi/Seagate drive I've used has worked without any modification.
For your earlier question, the only issue I'm aware of with v4 systems is that the laser might not perform as well as a newer system. However, if you plan to run games primarily from the hard drive, then it really doesn't matter.
You could install a chip into the v4, and down the road you could always move it to the slimline should it fail. Or maybe buy a new laser. I've heard of replacements for sale - but I'm not sure where to buy them.

ya they have the off brand ps2 network adapters on ebay for 30 dollars cheaper than the official ones.would i be better off modding a xbox? sopposedly less hasle.all im looking for is a way to back up games to the hdd without it taking an hour to burn it.and being able to just turn it on and play.thanks
