I am from Australia, PS3 is getting released next month. Looking to
purchase it sometime in the future. I have a tv with HDMI input but my receiver has only optical and coax input, with DD5.1 and DTS5.1 decoders. Is HD DTS backward compatible with standard DTS,
will I be able to at least hear DTS 5.1 from the optical output on the PS3 to my receiver from HD DTS bitstream. Asking this because I have noticed fox bluray titles have only a english HD DTS track included on them eg xmen last stand
I have mine set up to my Pioneer VSX-59TXi 7.1 w/ fiber optic out from PS3 and have to configure DTS out to optical (not HDMI) so my reciever ca decode it cause the HDMI will pass it through but the Reciever is not HDMI switchable so need it this way. I'm guessing the PS3 has a DTS decoder or some kind of software decode cause it does pass through to my Monitor TV via HDMI.
I also noticed that the Pioneer reciever is not displaying the input as DTS even though it is selected and the only connection (my PC via Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro does this too).
