Excuse me if I am asking the obvious. I'm not really sure about PS3 capabilities but I heard that you can surf the net with it.

What is it about the linux OS? You require this linux os such as yellow dog etc to surf the net? Also, does this mean you can have MSN and those Open Office / Microsoft office in your PS3? Or am I thinking way too much.

Yes right out the box you can browse the net on your TV no Linux needed. As for Linux yes there are things like Open Office that will work as for MSN I don't know as I don't use it but if it works on YDL or FC5 then it should work on the PS3 port of it.

For MSN messenger and AOL messenger, etc, look for GAim for linux. Its a messaging program that can handle almost all of those protocols. There should be a PPC build available.

Just a thought when it comes to linux. I will be using linux for the first time when I install it on the PS3. But just being a somewhat expert with Windows, and learning linux I know wont be any harder, but wouldnt you come across all the other problems with your station getting damaged or infected with unwanted viruses and spam and spyware if your surfing the net on the PS3 as you don on a normal PC

Linux is much less prone to viruses/spyware/adware. It doesnt have major holes like Windows does, and it also has a much much smaller market share so hackers wont attack it as much. And being an expert in Windows means jack when it comes to Linux. No offense, but its fairly different and will take time and patience to figure some stuff out. Dont get discouraged though, as it is a much better OS with many many more capabilities.

ubuntu is a great lunix based os that you can get going on the ps3. Its totally free too =) you can download it or they will even send you however many cds you want with the os on it completely for free aswell =) i got 3 disks from them for me and my friends.
