Okay, I'm confused. I've been burning about 5 mos with a Pioneer DVR-111D using Sony DVD+R and have had no problems. I usually use AnyDVD, then DVD Shrink, then DVD Decrypter. But now, all of a sudden when I try to burn using DVD decrpyter it just says writing lead in, and does nothing, it can sit for hours, won't do a thing. I just have to cancel it. I've tried movies that burnt okay before and the same thing. I went looking for firmware but then it said if you download the wrong one it'll mess everything up, so I got a little leary. Any ideas, sorry I'm not too savvy at all this yet.

Is this a new spindel of blank DVD's or a new batch recently purchased? What is the make and model number of your drive? It could be very likely that you need to update your firmware.

It has worked just fine until 2 days ago. Im in the middle of a 50 pack of the sony dvd+rs. I even opened a new pack and tried those, but I get the same result, it wont get past the writing lead in. The burner is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D. The only firmware update I saw from Pioneer was from 9/06, so I didn't think that would just now cause it to konk out.

hello jestagrl,
I have the same drive, Look in DVD Decrypter and see what ur firmware is

There is a firmware update HERE
1.29
I am running 1.23 but use only Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden dvds and never had a problem once.
U can also try to burn with IMGburn get it HERE IMO it is a better burner than decrypter jus cuz of the updates, also made by the same guy.

Try changing Decrypter.Go to www.dvdidle.com/free.htm and download the DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.8.0 and that should help.I also used the one from your picture of Decrypter and changed it to DVDFab and it now handles all my Shrink unless I use DVDFab Gold or Platinum which you can also download for free for 30 days and you don't need to
Decrypter if you use Gold or Platinum.

Hey thanks, sadly I couldn't figure what version of firmware I had. But with your picture, I was able to see it was 1.19. I used your link to bump it to the 1.23 you are using and am back in business. I'll try to download those other burners to try out also. Thanks for all your help, you guys are awesome.

If you've successfully upgraded your firmware stick with it...no reason to try the other firmware version, as a matter of fact I'd advise against it.

Okay, I'm back to having the same problem. I updated firmware to the 1.29, and I updated AnyDVD. It's the same thing it just tries to do the write in but the write speed never changes from 0x. Should I try to download the dvdfabdecrypter or could it be a problem with the drive itself.

first i would try ImgBurn Here is a LINK for that
Also Here is a GUIDE for burning Video_ts folders
Quote: Should I try to download the dvdfabdecrypter
This is not a burner, this just rips the dvd to the HD
It could be the burner doesn't like Sony media,
also like i said i have the same burner and have not had one single problem with burning Verbatims or Taiyo Yuden

That would depend on what Sony it is. The Japanese has been Taiyo Yuden for the +R for all I've purchased the last year or so. The Taiwanese Sony +R is by Sony and on my drives it's worked as well as the Taiyo Yuden discs. I can't vouch for the -R sony, but the +R sure has done well.
Download and use the free DVD Identifier to get the Manufacturer ID for the Sony DVD +Rs and let us know what it is.

Does it say Made in Taiwan on the label? Sony makes good +R media. At least with my burners it doesn't matter if it's Sony or Taiyo Yuden Sony +R media. I've used a hundred or more of each.

I think they are probably the D21 MID coded sonys, i doubt that they are the TYs sonys.
Have u tried IMGburn yet?

You're right. I use Sony all the time. The +R with the Sony manufacturer ID are more than likely the Made in Taiwan product. That's why I asked. Sony manufactures those under their own name, and why the manufacturer ID reads Sony. That would be like saying brand and manufacturer, i.e. Sony-Sony, Sony-Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim-MCC, Verbatim-Taiyo Yuden. That's why DVD Identifier is such a handy tool.

this looks like a warning, but it seems it will only effect the verify stage and not the actual burning process.

This error is caused by 2 things. One is the media the other is the burner dying.(Most of the time its the media)
Media is more than likely the problem,
so one way to rule out if the burner is good or not pick up some Verbatims and see if they work.
If they dont work than it is probably the burner.
I am assuming the pioneer u have is fairly new right?

Why are the partitions formatted in FAT32 instead of NTFS? There are file size concerns. FAT32 limits file size and DVD Movies are often large. Are you turning off AnyDVD when you go to burn with ImgBurn? ImgBurn is giving a warning it may interfere.

I actually had two of the verbatim dvd+rs that looked like a movie reel. I tried them and both discs burned successfully. So I guess it was those sony dvd+rs, but I'd used those all along without a problem. Thanks though, I'll be sure to pick up verbatim instead.

4,681,465,856 bytes = 4.6GB, well over the file size for a FAT32 partition.
It would be nice to have a NTFS partition to try. Most users have their XP systems formatted with NTFS and leave a partition with FAT32 if they need it for some reason. The larger video file sizes were a known problem with the older file system. The name says it all, NTFS, New Technology File System. Being as how working with DVDs is pretty much new technology...
Why hang on to FAT32?

I'm not too familiar with the fat32. If the problem is the size why can't I get a smaller one to work?
