Hey, I am waiting for Second Generation PS3 Console to come out before I buy. I hope to avoid most of the bugs as with any new Item being tested on the consumer when first released. I would like to know how I will be able to tell if I am getting a second generation or later PS3 console when I purchase it. What do I look for?

There is no reason to wait for a second gen as these "bugs" you speak of are basically non existent. Yes you might come across the OCCASIONAL hardware issue but NOTHING like what the 360 had and still has as well as the Wii on release day. A good portion of the issues I have seen here is from misuse like the PS3 is not ventilated properly or the owner does not know how to use an HD TV properly etc. There have been maybe 3 true topics I have seen where people say they had "X" problem and it seems like a hardware issue but to NOT buy a current PS3 for the minuscule amount of "bugs", then you are missing out.

I agree. Although I keep hearing stories from my xbox fanboy friends about how people's PS3s have been exploding and stuff :(

Ok, I doubt any PS3?s have exploded without some help of pyrotechnics. I would chalk that up to the Xbox 360 vs. PS3 rivalry as mere rumor. As the bugs go I know most PS3 systems have updates on their firmware. I know that works sometimes but I have updated the firmware in computers and routers along with other things and Updating firmware will resolve the current issue but sometimes the device never works properly afterward such as my Linksys router when I update the firmware. I hate to miss out on all the fun and I know I am being cautious, but I would at least like to know if I decide to wait for second generation how would I identify the PS3 system as being second generation? I don?t want to get away from the point here. If I choose use my purchasing power as a customer and wait for a company to get it right then how can I tell second generation apart from first generation models.

ive also heard that he newer ps3s + the ones in europe have worse backwards compadability cuz now their gona use software instead of hardware to run the ps2/1/x games
so it could be more benifical to buy it now cuz with all the new games coming out w/ the eurpoean relese can you really go another couple of months w/o the ps3?
Ps3 60gig
Psp 2.8 2gig mem card

MR. DUR...
People, we don't come here to be put down. Are you smart enough to answer the question? Dur... Back to you ---- Da??? The System has had issues as Sony has already Issued upgrades since release and if all the issues were resolved before the release in America then why provide an upgrade to a system that was just released when it was tested in other countries which all the bug were resolved before the release in America? Mr. DUR... have you spoken with Best Buy as I have about all the returns they have had on the system since release due to issues.
Look, please just answer the question only. I know everyone thinks their Sh*t don't stink, but If you don't have more than two brain cells to rub together just keep your stink to yourself.
Question is: How will I be able to tell second generation from first generation when I purchase a Playstation 3?

To answer your specific question; the only thing they *might* do is release a PS3 with smaller nanometer circuitry, I highly doubt there will be any other substantial offerings for some time. As of right now there is no second gen so there is no way to tell as obviously there isn't one to compare to.

Thank you
Knowledge is the consumers buying power.
In that case this is a question to be asked at a much later date
Thank you again
Cheers

Supposidly some company found a way to make a blue/violet laser that speeds up read/write time and to be out in 2008
from the site http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/bluev...2008-238525.php
Quote: Nichia, a Japanese company, has just made a blue/violet laser diode that will be able to write Blu-ray discs at up to 10x for double-layer and 2x for four-layer discs.
Why should you care? Well, if you've already purchased a PS3, you know that slow Blu-ray load times are causing game companies to cache data on the hard drive. With a faster laser (possibly in later iterations of the PS3), you'll be able to hopefully stream that same data off the disc itself. ? Jason Chen

Hey Chris0101
I understand your brother has come out of the cave to the world on Geico TV commercials and admitted your kind discovered the wheel, fire and learnt to walk upright. Well done with the development of your family?s third brain cell!

You know something man???..
I think you're a bit messed up.
I mean like you come on here and ask people to tell you when a 2nd gen ps3 comes out, LIKE HOW THE HELL ARE WE MEANT TO KNOW????.
Then you start going on at random people who are trying to help you by putting them down and stuff.
Thats called flaming m8, and from what i can tell the rules here state no Flaming allowed.
So unless you want a ban i think you should calm down and be more nice to people.

Oh dear not another caveman. I was nice LOL. Please read all the messages first - second generation cave guy (Zero129). Flame that and learnt yourself back to first generation cave guy?s (Chris0101) original messages. He clearly was not trying to help answer the Topic question. With much the same tone, are you two related? Please crawl back to your rock if you don't know the difference between helpful Topic conversation and scratching symbols on the cave wall. I only care about the Topic so please leave my thread alone unless you have something intelligent to say about the Topic of the Thread.
Thank you to all the others that actually are putting in worthy discussion into the Topic.

I understand zero129 is confused. Proficient reading 101 - The question WAS NOT WHEN Second generation would be released, but how to tell the difference between first and second-generation PS3 consoles. I don't know if the second generation has been released to the consumer or not. If it hasn't then my question is premature.
