For some reason Shrink is going terribly slow all the sudden! It is currently moving at 617 KB/s and the estimated time for finish is 3 hours 40 miutes on a 4.35 GB disc.

The only thing I could think of is that I need to download new Firmware to my burner, It's never been upgraded at all. I'm using a BenQ 1640 with Taiyo Yuden 8X media. I copy with Shrink and write with Decrypter always. The writing process is fast as usual, but the copying is taking hours when it used to move much faster.

Why could this be happening?

More than likely your DMA settings have reverted to PIO mode CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives can revert to using PIO mode, despite being set to use "DMA if Available." Here's how to make Windows XP redetect the DMA capabilities of the drives. DMA Settings

Make sure you don't have Shrink's Low priority mode enabled:
Edit > Preferences > bottom box should be unchecked.

Check the Quality Settings on the Backup DVD meu after you click Backup!. These will cause Shrink to take a lot longer.

For firmware, Open Decrypter, Mode ISO > Write.
Click on Tools > Drive > Check for firmware updates.

Make sure you have DMA enabled.
Use this Guide.

A very easy way to check and reset DMA is to use DVDFab Decrypter (free!):

Click the gear icon:

Click the text:

Click the Reset DMA button and follow the instructions:
