I've been using DVDFAB, DVDShrink and Nero 7 lately and haven't had any problems until I came across The Break Up, Flushed Away, and The Prestige. Not sure why it won't burn. DVDFAB and DVDShrink don't seem to have a problem ripping and encrypting. Just the burn. Here's the log:

Thanks for the reply. I'm using verbatim DVD+R disc.
I don't have Nero 7 over Nero 6 because I only own Nero 7 and I just reformatted my hd. Sorry I don't mean to sound like a smartass. Should I still try to reinstall Nero 7?

Hello again.
Quote: Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
The above appears to be a Nero 6 file. I don't know why it's showing up in your log. I doubt it's causing the problem.
Try creating an image file instead of burning directly to the disk. Use ImgBurn to burn the image to a disk. If that works, you know the problem is with Nero.

akaonohi,
Keep 7 for now and this is one reason I do not like the logs in 7 as it does not tell you what DVD blank you are using. Your error is below. Re-Rip the DVD as the computer is having a problem reading the files that you rippped. If you did not use this ripper then use Ripit4Me to rip the DVD to the HD and make sure you use the 1 click mode

6.3.1.4 is a version number from Nero 6 for the Burning ROM and Nero Express. Did you have Nero 6 before you did your format and installed Nero 7? It's strange to see it in a version of Nero 7. Was that a full format done where the drive got wiped clean or just a reinstallation of Windows? Don't mean to be a smartass, but that file doesn't look right in there. That was one of the troublesome versions Nero released as well. I'd suggest using the Nero clean tool and completely clean out Nero and then do a fresh install of Nero 7. Then see if 6.3.1.4 shows up again.

PacMan777,
If I am not mistaken "Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 " is normal in Nero 7.

I've got Nero 7. I used the Nero cleaner tool to get rid of all remnants of Nero 6 and made sure the Nero folder was gone before I did a clean install. Here's one of my burn logs. Note no 6.3.1.4 and the media is identified by the program.

PacMan777,
Your log looks like it came from Nero Recode. My log below came from a really old burn I did( and I have no idea why I kept this log as I ususally delete them) and I only used the burning Rom as that is what Shrink uses. I think that is what the difference is here. One using the burning Rom and the other using Recode along w/ the burning Rom. Could I be incorrect, Hell it will not be the first time. Never had Nero 6 on this new computer as it is still on my older computer

Maybe the older version number 6.3.1.4 came up with some older versions of Nero 7, but I don't remember seeing it. If you notice the segment I marked in red, Nero Express is where the log came from, not Recode. Since Express and the Burning ROM utilize the same burning engine, they share the same version numbers. Use infotool and check software to see if you have 6.3.1.4 listed for any of the programs. Here's mine and no 6.3.1.4.

Hi Guys - great site! I got here from Google as I am experiencing the same problem with DVD Shrink/Nero combination. I'll give your advice a go and report back if successful.
The main reason I'm posting this is that my Nero [OEM 6?? I think] will not burn DVD-R format disc but it will still burn DVD+R discs!
I must also add that I often use Sonic Record Now to copy discs and this is performing identically to Nero, happily burning +format discs but not -format.
Thanks again for your advice.

Sometimes Sonic (Roxio) and Nero don't play well together. There's even been cases where Roxio and Nero played well together for a long time and something with an update set them at odds. Some people can have the different software on their systems and never suffer a problem while others have nothing but conflicts and have to settle for one or the other.
Since you mentioned the format issue, that sounds more like a burner problem than the software. Media compatiblity and firmware sound more like the issues. DVD Identifier (free download) will give manufacturer info you need to give us on your media. Also, what model burner do you have and what is your firmware version?

Thanks for reply Pacman - the drive is a 'NEC ND-2510A DVD drive'which has also been quoted as having the same problem on this site [http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/378746]
I had Roxio Easy Creator bundled with the computer but I found it such a useless program I unistalled it, preferring Nero for most burning jobs; the only part of Roxio I kept was the Sonic Record Now as it doesn't try to hog my D drive as the full Roxio did.
As far as media is concerned I have been successfully using Tesco +format and -format discs and have never had even 1 coaster yet with them; for more 'important' jobs I've used TDK -format discs; and for storage and back-ups I've used Phillips + and - format DVD-RW's.
As I say I've never encountered any probs with any of these discs before.
Again thanks for help Pacman - I apologise if I don't reply quickly to answers but I have no internet access at home and have to rely on local library; this incidentally makes it difficult to download stuff that helps sort out these sorts of problems!

Forums aren't exactly known for punctual responses. Sounds as though you're familiar with software conflicts and what to look for. I may be wrong, but for media formats not being recognized (- or +) it looks beyond the software. Good luck.

Cheers Pacman - I'll try every combination of removing and reinstalling programs and then run them through Nero using the 'Simulate' function for all my disc types.
Thanks again for reply

Simplify that. Delete all the recording software so there won't be a conflict. Then load the free ImgBurn and try burning + and - with it. If it's still a no go, look to the media and burner compatibility.

Hello.
Have you tried going back to an earlier restore point when the burner still burned -R media. I had a NEC 2500 that also refused to burn -R media years ago. It didn't like the media and after I changed to Verbatim, it was fine. It still burns very well although it's semiretired. Usually though, when a burner fails to burn only one format of media, it's usually a hardware problem.
The only reliable, consistently high quality media are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. Made in Japan labeled media from Sony and Fuji are included since they likely will be Taiyo Yuden manufactured.
You might also try running the Nero Driver Clean Tool to remove any potentially offending drivers.
http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/Driver_Cle...tryChecker.html
The 2510 is a pretty old drive and I doubt the firmware has been updated to handle newer media, especially 16X media. Since this drive was used as an oem drive, there are different firmware versions about.

Is your media 8X? If it's 16X, ty some 8X if you can find it.
Have you tried uninstalling the drive with Device Manager and then letting the OS reinstall it upon restart?
You could also do a physical uninstall/reset by disconnecting both the data and power cables and restarting your system a couple of times before reseating the cables.
If you have access to another system, take your burner out and install it in that other system. If it works there, you know it has something to do with your setup.
I don't use very much -R media myself, so this "feature" of your burner wouldn't bother me if I couldn't isolate the problem. Just be aware it could be a symptom of your burner heading the wrong direction. New ones are so cheap these days, you might want to consider retiring it, especially if you really need/want to use -R media.

Thanks for the input laddyboy; I think I'm going to end up with egg on the face here! I thought my problem was with either the programs or even the burner ['cause I thought all discs were built to the same quality] but following advice here I've tried burning to TDK minus format discs and Verbatim 8X minus format discs and all is well!
Sorry if I've wasted your time folks but I guess it's a lesson learned for me [and anyone else reading this thread] - I checked through the Nero toolkit [didn't know what it was for until now]and it tells you in there if a disc CAN be burned to and if so at what speed.
I did have a problem with 16X discs a while ago but the ones that weren't burning were 8X tesco discs.
Cheers again for your help and saving me a load of wasted time and probably a few cock ups along the way.
