Sony has been doing to much backsliding and spinning and lieing,these are the main things I think Sony can do to solve the problems I see the PS3 having.
AGAIN STATE WHAT YOU THINK CAN MAKE THE PS3 BETTER
KEEP THE FANBOYISIMS OUT,FOCUS ON WHAT SONY CAN DO TO MAKE IT BETTER.

Simple plan to solve all PS3 issues
1.Stop making the Low end system its bleeding cash and saturating the market.
2.DO NOT TOUCH THE PS2 HARDWARE,Unless you plan on FULLY SUPPORTING EMULATION,then from there you can make it run PSP games for the price of 60$ off your store as a downlaod or free if you can verify you have a PSP(PS3 scans for PSP and checks frimware).
2.Lower the High end price to 450 and leave it their for the next 3 years.
4.Add frimware patches to make the PS2 hardware better
5.Create a premium online system
Limit free accounts to 3GB bandwidth a week,points and bought items do not effect the weekly bandwidth limit.
Premium accounts can come in flavors bu they offer
Free points monthly points to spend
Other freebies
Unlimited MP or even 12GB weekly limited play for low level accounts
Even copying Live would be a start

I'll leave with this,if you lower the spec on the PS3 make a incomplete gaming system keep the prices high or ignore what the consumer wants you will fail and repeat the mistakes of sega.
1. Why would they stop making the PS2 if it's still the top seller (top3) in Japan on a consistent basis... month after month. Doing so would just be foolish and will hurt Sony in the long run economically (not like they aren't already hurt with the $$$ they're losing on each PS3).
2. For the NTSC PS3, they did NOT touch the PS2 emulation hardware. They chip is in the system. Newer systems will come without this chip to lower the manufacturing costs. However, most popular PS2 titles like GTA, GoF will still be playable.
3. As mentioned above, Sony is already losing buckets of $$$... they simply cannot afford to lower the price of the system at this point.
4. They are adding patches constantly that lets you do all kind of stuff. And on a technical level, patches cannot change the hardware of the emotion PS2 engine.
5. Sony has stated from the start that the online downloading network will be free for everyone. This is a major hand over the xbox live service. If your downloads are slow, then get a faster internet connection or use an ethernet cable instead of wi-fi.
And P.S. The only reason SEGA ejected itself out of the hardware market was because of Sony offering a much better technology (PS2). SEGA was praised on simplicity and easy of game development for the Dreamcast.
it'd be nice for them to make just the 60gig at a bit of a lower price. their online setup is coming together and eventually i believe we'll see something better than what Live is.

.........the PS3 has PS2 hardware within it and they removing it for cheaper less functional emulation.
the PS3 low end is a waste of money for everyone not making it will SAVE MONEY.

thus is the problem lowering the spec to save money and make the system less of what tis supposed to be.
Why should I invest in it if its not going to play my 100 game collection?
It will stop some people from buying it I have yet to get a 360 because of the BWC when you fully support older games you SAVE MONEY by selling more systems and games.

then why do patches make some games work?
either you patch what you got via revision/download or you fully support emulation in a new model but they wish to do NEITHER,or did you not read the statement THEYsaid about not focusing on making it run older games better anymore?

Sorry no matter what connection a user has its not going to help their laggy servers,also they need money and creating a better version of LIVE! that has full free play but a limited amount of free play will help them and let them SAVE MONEY and lower the cost of the PS3 to 450 so they can thus sale more consoles and premium net accounts dont you see I want sony to be good but the way they are doing things they cant get ANYTHING done right..

I wonder why maybe because sega could no longer afford to make and service the console outside of japan thus dropped the hardware department and halved their game staff,if you have not noticed sega's quality HAS GONE TO HELL.....

If you just have to remove the PS2 hardware double the staff of the emulation team and get them working as part of a main focus on GAMING

Start up a premium online setup,this is something they have to do to balance thigns out when they do this they can lower the price of the PS3 to 400-450 doing so would get more systems sold more systems more games more games/accessories/premium accounts more profit,all the chips fall in place.

Theres hundreds of games unplayable becaus of emulation, and hundreds of games youve never even heard of. Hmmmm....

anyway I do need to update my self more on the PS3 but some of the things I worry/wonder about make since,supporting old games solidly not like what MS is doing will get you more new games sold at the least it will get you BR movies sold there are not alot of down sides to dropping the PS3 price 150 however in order to balance it you are going to have to add cost to something else and remove something you don't need.
There are things they can do to make the PS3 shine,I want to see it shine.

Yea Zippy, all your posts are a bit anti-sony fanboyish. You do make some interesting points, but the fact of the matter is is that Sony, no offense, is a lot smarter than you, you couldn't possible know all the ins and outs of it all. They know what they are doing. But I also agree that they should stop making the 20gb. Oh and I've never experienced lag playing online. I think they should keep it free as the servers are very good anyway and it's a major advantage over Live.
