Newbie-enough said. I have read through many forums here but I am confused on one thing. My basic question is can I use Shrink + Decryptor without using Nero to complete the process or do I have to have Nero to get the job done?
I am asking because I have a brand new computer, not even opened yet, and it came with Roxio. From what I hear on this forum, that is junk and I shouldn't use it but I don't want to purchase Nero if I can use Shrink and Decryptor to get it done.
Thanks in advance!

Screw Nero. It sucks, but you may need it sometime.
But No, you do not need it to use Shrink.
I think Decrypter uses less of your PCs resources than Nero.
I still use it. Imgburn is the newer version of Decrypter without the ripper.
Nero version that will auto burn w/Shrink here.
Get Roxio off your PC. Link

Here is a LINK for IMGburn i would suggest that for burning instead of DVD Decrypter

Well this not true for everybody, for me it is a great program, and I haven't had one single problem with it
Also Nero recode is a great program too, it's a lot faster than shrink is.

All right is does not suck, but it has a learning curve.
For use with Shrink and do not care to use it.
I have not used Imgburn yet, does autoburn with Srink like Decrypter.

Yes, but u have to DL a specific version of shrink, I think Pacman has a link to that DVD Shrink
or
there are other ways around it too, i believe something like renaming the IMGburn.exe to decrypter.exe or something like that.
cant remember exactly.

Thanx I may try it.
When my new system is up, I was going to switch to RB + CCE.

Thanks for the feedback but everywhere I look for Decrypter, it is not available because of legal issues. Can I use Shrink and Imageburn in the place of Decryptor or do I need something more than just Shrink and Imageburn?
Anyone know where I can still get decrypter?

Yea you will need some other programs. Some newer DVDs are messed up so Decrypter and Shrink will not work alone. All I add is IFO Edit.

It is not necessary to remove Roxio from your system even if you want to install Nero. Just don't install Nero's InCD. I've had both for years and I can use any program for backing up dvds without issues. Don't let either load at startup. Close program when finished.

I have never had or used Roxio so I would take garmoon's adivce. I know there is trouble when using InCD.
Edit
Shrink is great but if are going more than 70% compression I would think about RB +CCE

I use DVDxCopy when I burn movies that are too big to fit on one single layer disc because I don't like to sacrifice video quality. DVDxCopy will decrypt the movie and split it up so you can put the entire thing on two single layer discs. I also use DvdShrink and DVD Decrypter. All 3 programs work excellent!! I use a program called Sonic RecordNow made by Roxio to burn movies when I use DvdShrink or DVD Decrypter. All 4 programs work excellent!

You DVD X Copy Xpress still works with AnyDVD to do movies. Old school for sure. I don't use it but it's fun to see it still work. Kind of like playing a reel to reel tape deck.

If you want to use Imgburn automatically in place of DVDDecrypter to burn. Just rename DVDdecrypter.exe to something else say DVDDecrypter real.exe and then copy Imgburn to the Decrypter folder. Rename Imgburn to DVDDecrypter.exe.
Select the burn with decypter option in shrink and it will then use Imgburn.

@56delray
Yeah I just threw away both my reel to reel decks and 150 7"tapes full of good music. 35 year old tapes don't play well.
