I highly doubt it will work. Usb hard drive/keyboards use drivers that are a standard (used worldwide)...its like when you put a usb hard drive or keyboard in a windows PC...it recognises it automaticaly with no driver cd/floppy needed.
The HD DVD drive needs drivers to be used in winxp so drivers would be needed for the ps3
The only way i could think to use it with a PS3 is to install linux then find some form of driver that supports the HD DVD drive

I have a PS3 and an XBOX 360 and at the moment im kinda split in the middle on whats best, i have my ps3 and my xbox 360 both on a SONY BRAVIA X SERIES 40" TV and both running HDMI and sound through an amplifier, both look amazing but in terms of graphics i think the ps3 slighly tips it as for HD-DVD or Blu-ray i perfer Blu-ray but only just and i mean ONLY just.

No Good Buddy, there must be somesort of communication between the HD-DVD of the MS XBOX 360 box and it does not allow it or see it as a Valid Drive.
This should be kind of obvious as one product is from Microsoft and one is from SONY no way will one allow the other to play or for movies for everyone to get the best of both everyone would buy a PS3 and just the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive and just plug it in to the PS3
so even thou it is good thinking on our part Microsoft or Sony are not as silly as they may sound.
if there is anything else you need just post a reply.

I really thought it might work. You can hook up a usb keyboard to a ps3 and it will work. you can hook up a usb hard drive and it will work with a ps3. you can hook up both a HD DVD and a blu ray dvd to a pc and they will both work! the ps3 is a computer I really think someone should be able to get the xbox 360 HD DVD to work on the ps3. someone needs to try. thanks

I have tried trust me, i have been a IT Technician for 10 years and i have tested this, it does not work, dont forget usb keyboard and mouse only need basic interfaces UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS so connecting any usb mouse or keyboard will work on a ps3, but what i am saying is there must be some sort of microsoft identifing chipset in the MS HD-DVD drive which identifies itself to the XBOX 360 to make it work.

Theres no "microsoft identifing chipset" in the HD-DVD drive. Its all to do with drivers, correct me if im wrong but to even use it on a Windows PC dont you still need to download a special driver? now if someone could make the equivalent file for linux then this would work fine. But I highly doubt M$ would make the driver for Linux as its like their biggest compitition as a rival OS, least of all because it could then be used on a PS3.

When a driver is hacked/adjusted/made for it to be used in Linux then in theory it could be used on a PS3 with FC5 or YDL etc...
