What do you have to pay to get Shrink and how much for the better? I have better, it's called RB Pro/CCE SP. Price that pack.

The matter of doing screenshots is questionable at best. Not only do you have the quality of output from the software, but the quality of the user as well as the quality of the capture software. It would be much better to view the clip a shot came from. There you add the factor of transmission. Little comparisons like these are a waste of time because of too many factors that vary and can't be controlled in show and tell over the internet.

is it just me or doesn't it look like all the screen shots are crap.

I agree with you. Screenshots are a waste of time. Too many factors involved.

Overall the screen shots are crap,
but I am of the opinion that there is some evidence as to the quality of the software.
If look at certain regions for pixilation or artifacts, I think you can judge a difference.

I am not saying that Shrink sucks.
I have used it for all my backups to date [600+].
For the most part I am satisfied.
I was planning to start using CCE for some of the "harder" DVDs.
But now I was thinking of looking at Procoder 2.
Of course it looks like the most expensive option.

This series of screenshot seems the best example. 8 shots

Look at this series of screenshot just above the raised hand. 7 shots

Notice the artifact and the grain of the pic.

There's different versions of CCE. The affordable one is CCE Basic. Pro Coder 2 is a good app if you want to pay that much. However, Custom Technology with the SP, SP2 and other encoding programs are industry leaders in encoding software and hardware. Some of their prices are sure to cause sticker shock. Any of the programs with Rebuilder will give you a good backup.

Many of the screenshot exhibitions are by people wanting to appear experts. As a lot of people have noticed, they can be just as misleading as helpful. That's why I don't bother and many people think it's just a crappy waste of time.

Yes, I misspoke when I said Procoder2 was the most expensive option.
Xtream from CCE at $38,000 may be the highest.
SP2 at $2,000 is too high also.
Procoder2 at $250 is pushing it.
So I guess I will take the CCE Basic road.

I've used the CCE Basic and it does a good job. They say the free Hank's encoder is also a good choice, but takes longer. Of the affordable options I'd go with the CCE Basic. Don't forget to make a small donation and get the RB Pro. It's definitely worth the small investment to get it. If you don't donate enough, you may feel guilty for all you get. LOL With all the transcoding and encoding software I have, I end up using the RB Pro most often.
