So my 360 is screwed after only 3mths (red lights). I did the towel trick a couple of times but eventually the red lights would always come back.
I took it back to the store I got it from, but their policy is you have to send off your 360 to microsoft.
I tried reasoning with the manager but he wasn't keen to swap it over, whcih I was prepared for and had a story ready for him.
I asked him if we could talk in private, so we went into his office and this is where it gets good:
I told him I was a junkie going through home rehqab and the 360 is the only thing saving my sanity and I really can't be without my 360 right now. After he listed he said 'OK give me a minute' and he walked out.
He then came back with a brand new 360 for me :)
The best part was this: I took in just my console without the HD or anything, and he just swapped his brand new one for my old one, but here's the kicker: He forgot to remove the HD from the new 360! So I now have two HDs, one of which I am going to sell cause here they retail for $150 so I should be able flog it on Ebay for about $100.
In me eyes, justive has been served.

What!?
I can't believe peoples reactions to this. Don't you think it's unfair that they sold me a faulty console? Do you think it's fair that I should have to wait for 3 weeks for it to get fixed when it should work properly in the first place?
He should have replaced the console anyway, I made up that story because it's either me that gets stuck with a faulty 360 or the billion dollar company I bought it from.
Besides, people are always saying to dodgy things like this when your 360 craps out; eg tell them you lost the receipt etc., what I did was no worse. In fact, mikeismad who is giving me sh*t about this was the one who told me to do what I just mentioned - can you say hypocrite?
I mean come on, a 360 should last more than 3 damn months, they should of exchanged it on the spot, it was actually the manager who put me in the position where I had to make up bullshit.

you think they sold it to you on purpose? wtf is wrong with people these days, im sure the guy that sold it to you took it out of the box and said haha lets ruin this guys 360...no he didnt, so your going to rip that company off that had nothing to do with it, send it to microsoft and let them deal with it... and dont lie to the man about anything either

Of course they didn't sell it to me on purpose, but it was a faulty product and when you buy something that's faulty it should be replaced.
And it's not a loss to the company I bought it from at all, they will simply send it back as a store defective and get sent a new one and the only people who will be out of pocket will be Microsoft, and if they made a console that actually freaking works then they wouldn't lose money and people will actually get what they paid for.
I don't like spending $650AU on a product that will crap out after only 3mths.
You don't seem to realise that *I'm* the victim here. I did what I had to do for justice to be served. If you think otherwise well you know where you can go.

You don't need to SCAM people for justice to be served. All stores have a Standard 90 Warranty,the Manufacture sets that, after that Warranty is up they want the Consumer to deal with then. That is why you have a 1 year manufactures warranty.

Damn, I have pulled some immoral scams myself before and can admit I am not the most ethical guy - but taking advantage of a store owners kindness is wrong. Th person who owns that shop is not a billionarie (Most likely). Bill Gates is a millionaire - let MS deal with it.
I figure the guy probably just ate the 360 too be nice to someone with a supposed drug problem. You probably should go smoke crack after that scam!!

You guys don't know what you're talking about.
A 90 day store warranty? That's 3mths right? Well it was exactly 3mths I had my 360 before it crapped it out and he wouldn't replace it which forced me to make up bullshit.
navsav: It's no loss to the store, they send it back to microsoft as a store defective and mocrosoft gives thema new one. The only people out of pocket are microsoft, and if they made a console that works they wouldn;t be losing money on crap like this.
domreis: It was Dick Smith Powerhouse. But like I said, they don;t lose any money, they will send it back to microsoft as a store defect and get sent another at Moicrosoft's expense, and Microsoft wouldn't have lost money on this console if they had of made it to WORK.

Yes I was really lucky, and that extra HD I scored I returned to the store out of the goodness of my heart, cause I'm not the dodgy scamming bastard people are making me out to be.

No, I didn't think that at all. I considered it the moment I realised I was given and extra HD. At first I thiught screw it I'll keep it but then thought look, the guy at Dick Smith did the right thing by me so I feel a responsibility to the right thing by him (even though I had to go through bullshit to get a replacement 360).

Nah the shop took it, basically they will send it back to microsoft as what they call a 'store defective', which pretty much means dead on arrival so microsoft just sends them a new one and the only people who will be out of pocket will be microsoft, and as I've said if Microsoft made 360s that work they wouldn't lose any money, and I wouldn't have been put in the position I was in.

yeh alot of people have had the 3 red light problem just as its out of the 1 year warranty so it just makes u wonder was it done on purpose? u would immediately think no, M$ would never do something like that, but then u remember what a greedy money-hungry company they are and start to believe they might :P

Bill Gates has way too much money. No one needs that amount of cash. I don't know how he spleeps at night knowing that there are people in the world who can't even get a glass of water or a handful of rice. He does give a lot to charities but he still makes sure he's got at least 30 billion in his bank account.
I don't think anyone has the right to live so luxuriously when there are people out there who have absolutely nothing.
It also shits me that NASA spends billions a year on space programs, how bout we worry about our own planet first?

yeah i agree. who really cares about space travel anyway?
to give Bill Gates a bit of credit tho he is leaving nearly all his billions of $$$$ to charity in his will leaving his kids with something like 0.001% each (thats still $10 million!!!)

Well I suppose as long as they are not losing money - the store owneer then its not as bad. But I do agree that its a good thing to return the extra HD

Don't take offense here, but did you return the HDD to the store because people flamed the hell out of you? Because in your first post, you were really happy to keep it.
