I've read a ton of posts and visited the tutorial sites. Sorry if my questions sound stupid...I just want to be clear on a few things as I proceed further into this hobby?/Sport?/addiction?. I've been reading as much as I can, and many things are very straight forward, others have left me scratching my head. I was under the impression from posts regarding DVD Shrink..that the entire original DVD (extras/menus..everything) could be compressed using DVD Shrink..and work like the original. Not that anyone said you COULD do that..but nowhere did I read anything that stated the program was designed to compress and back up the movie ONLY. That being said..here a few other things I'd like to make sure about.
1. Does DVD Shrink remove encryption on movie DVD movie files? Should a person always used DVD Decrypter to remove copy guard/encryption before proceeding with DVD Shrink? (I've been reading that some people say it does..and others say it doesn't ...always)
2. From my use of DVD Shrink...it is basically designed to compress the main movie portion on any DVD...not the extras or menus (with any hope of them working). You get just the movie using DVD Shrink? (basically DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink & a burning program produces a similar output as DVDXCopyExpress) True?
3. If an original DVD contains all it's information (menus, Movie, extras, commentary etc) in a series of files and folders..and the total DVD space used is less than 4.3GB...can that disk be run through DVD Decrypter in file mode and then burned to a blank DVD....AND...will it work like the original? Will there be problems with the menus or DVD operation using this method?
(I know you can burn using ISO and everything works fine, I've done it...I also tried to burn a DVD (using the procedure above)using the file mode (DVD Decrypter) and burned with Nero 6, and it would not function properly or read in my stand alone players)
4. When Using DVD Decrypter where it's set to select just the movie files for decryption.....I noticed when I proceed to DVD shrink to compress the movie...I get an error when I click on the .ifo file that was selected by DVD Decrypter.."Invalid file..cannot be opened..or something like that)...I found that I have to move all the original DVD files into the directory with the movie files for DVD Shrink to operate properly. Then through process of elimination..I found that as long as I included all the files that are numbered lower than the Movie file numbers..and omitted the ones that have higher numbers from the directory...DVD Shrink worked fine. Apparently all the files that preceed the actual movie .VOB's have to be in the HD directory for DVD Shrink to operate. Is this correct?
Thanks for anyone who answers. I do appreciate the help and guidance.
