Putting PS2 saves onto the PS3 HD?

I'm trying to use the save found on Gamefaqs for a certain PS2 Game. I lost my 100% save years ago and want to get one back. But I don't have enough time to do it on the Game again.

Is there any way to download a save from the internet and have it work on the PS3?

I have FTP access to my PS2,
Can I copy the saves onto my PC and then thumb stick and load them on the PS3 or do I need the memory convertor.
