DVD Shrink always has error at about 80-90% during writing phase.

OK, officially joined the forum today. Have been here multiple times in the past and got answers (fixes) to problems but am not having luck with the search this time.
I have used used this method mutliple times. Copy movie with DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.9.6, to my C: drive. Then open with DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and burn to disk. DVD Shrink uses Nero 6.6.0.18.
I had the same problems in the past when I upgraded Nero but thanks to a thread on this site I removed the upgrade. I also already tried re-installing DVD Shrink but after another 4 ruined DVDs (different movies)gave up.

Start with these and see if they help:
(1) Edit out your S/N in your original post. Should start with 1A23....
(2) Clean your machine. Shrink is notorious for not doing well on a fragmented hdd. Defrag and run ccleaner. Find it here: http://www.ccleaner.com
(3) Don't multitask while burning. If need be, turn off any antivirus and antispyware programs.
(4) Just a long shot, but go ahead and check for any firmware updates for your burner.

Sony is decent media. If all else fails, try some Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens and see if that alleviates your problems. Good Luck and let us know.

Totally agree with above,you need to defragment your hard disk drive regularly,and it seems that while the burning process your system is using almost 3/4 of the resources,try close all unnecessary programs during the burn,this will help a lot for a smooth burn.And again,as said by FFsp42,always keep your drive's firmware updated.

You've got a couple of problematic issues that have caused failed backups for others. The Roxio driver Bowler pointed out is one. You're reading both a drive error and a media error. The problem an be attributed to interference by the driver or a media problem due to the firmware. Have you used this media successfully before? Firmware is the onboard programming built into an optical drive. It's memory on a chip. That memory can be updated if there is a newer version. Check the website for your drive and look for the firmware download in the support section. Firmware versions are specific to a drive.
The memory is also very low. Watch the memory in the taskmanager and see if you're running out when the problem occurs. Any of these problems could lead to your backup failure.

OK, failed again.
I defragmented the drive, ran CCleaner (even updated to a newer version), ran the RoxioZap program, and updated the firmware.
I have been backing up my movies this way for the last 2 years so I'm not sure why I'm having problems all of a sudden. I'm guessing my problem is not with DVDShrink but with Nero since it fails in the burning phase, is that correct. Should I totally uninstall all 3 DVDFAB Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero and reinstall? and in what order should I reinstall if that's what I need to do.
Another DVD bites the dust.

The burner was new in the computer and I bought it about 2 1/2 years ago. (Dell) I probably won't get a chance to try again until tomorrow.

Bowler's suggestion is a good one. When you do the backup select create an ISO on the HD and then burn from there. That takes your decryption and transcoding software out of the picture. I didn't get an answer to the question, have you used this particular media before?

Okay, last night I removed all 3 programs, rebooted, installed them back (order of Nero-DVDFAb-DVD Shrink) and tried again. No luck. Just downloaded ImgBurn and went through the guide. It's just fine until I hit OK (after write), I get a message that pops up that tells me that there doesn't appear to be enough Disc space. It doesn't matter if I use the output files that DVD Shrink used either (they don't appear to be shrunk). How do I get around this?

i really never use the verify part(have it unchecked) basically if it plays in the dvd player thats good enough for me
let me say this though, have you tried looking for a firmware update, you can check with IMGburn by selecting TOOLS/Drive/Check for firm...
i say this because i believe you are using the 16x rated Sony disks,while you drive tops out at 8x and only getting 2x, 4x supported speeds from IMGburn
so using 8x rated media is probably better for your drive(if you cant find a firmware update) but you probably can't find any media lower than 16x in the stores, so online would be the place to get 8x media while the supplies last.
or maybe think about getting a newer drive, good ones are very cheap now.

I was really happy that at least I could back up my movies now. So I tried a new one from the disc (I had been doing the ones that were on my computer). Now, DVDFab doesn't recognize my burner as a DVD drive, only a CD drive. I did update the firmware, did something happen then?

OK, disregard that last reply. I just tried a different movie with DVDFab and it worked fine. Maybe my other one is just a bad "movie" as the disc is all scrathed up. Thanks for all the help!
