I really really think that we should all get together (or post together for that matter) on our friend or foe eMule. Cause I've been reading up alot about emule and basically coming across people saying that they get high upload speeds blah blah...people with port problems etc...people downloading slowly...etc..
I posted a thread on how I thought emule will be made faster. It worked for a while but now...slow as hell. It doesn't seem to be consistent throughout. Now I know that sometimes some people won't be online and therefore the speeds will vary but not from 80kb's to 10kb's average in a month!! That is ridiculous. I think we should conduct a test on settings and port configurations where we all set the stuff the same and see what happens. OK so some people will have higher credit ratings..but then again..I mean how long does it take to build a high credit rating.. how much do you have to upload to get that seemingly untouchable maximum line speed. Like I have a 1 mb/s line but i downloaded for 2 days on emule and still downloading at less than 10kbs! Also I can't seem connect to more that 4 or 5 sources at a time. What is that???
I think we should all pull together and master eMule because it IS a great program with great files!
I find emule is top for downloads i have nortan firewall and just had the default settings for emule but i changed the upload to 15kb and download to 50kb and its true the dl's dont start kicking in to about 10hrs later but once it gets going its sweet and it helps if you download a few things at a time so if no sources are available then at least you can download something else(mines always above 40kb on download), also i recommend you leave your computer on 24/7 if not it aint worth it. My last word on emule is PATIENCE it just takes time to get started and once its going i recommend it to any one. Thats just my 2 cents so you're have to make up your own minds:-)
Work out the maximum you are downloading at one time, say 10KB/s in this situation. If you are only getting 10k, then it doesn't make sense to be uploading to people at a higher rate than that.
So cap your upload at 4K, and your download will be set at a max of 16k. Basically just multiply your upload limit by 3 or 4 to get your max download speed at that cap. Emule automatically adjusts to the max download if you have capped the upload. I really don't see the point in wasting my bandwidth, when I'm not getting any myself.
And crucial, you go to the shared files button. Then right click on ya downloads and click release. That speeds up your downloads a heap, like 200% ;)
Yeah Powa, this release thing should definately be on top of the priority list of speeding up emule. My Upload is capped at the appriopriate level.
I Have a few questions for you:
Question 1: How many sources can you connect to one file , d/ling from?
Question 2: How long must you upload or be connected to get a good download speed?
Question 3: What do you set you're priority when in the download transfers window?
Question 4: Does the files you share make any difference to the d/l speed...I mean must it be like popular ones or could it be not so popular one. If sharing not so wide spread files, will this affect your credit rating and how?
This is what i do and it works for me(im on aol broadband for dial up i wouldn't recommend do the same):
1:i have 600 sources per file
2:it takes me about 8 hours to get 50kbs dl nonstop
3:i just leave them on auto
4:not to sure on this one but i dont think it does and not to sure about the rare files sharing rating to
Thats my settings but if it dont work for you just play about with it and you're soon find out the best settings:-)
I have been using eMule for about three or four weeks and my opinions of the program are as follows:
I'm running it through a router and I know that doing so slows things down. I don't now nor have I ever had a "high ID" but to be honest, it doesn't bother me. Does it take long time to get... "quilts" that I'm looking for? Sure it does. But to me, that's not an issue. I know that the... "quilts" that I've found are all complete and excellent and that's the only thing that I care about. I might try running it without the router in the middle, but for now, I have no complaints.
I'm happy with eMule and i'm glad I started using it. Patience is the key.
I love eMule. It was slow at first for me but after a while it picked up speed and is amazingly fast for me right now!
We cannot get one configuration that will make everyone have good speeds, there are too many factors involved, how many sources for a file? how good is the line connection? what speed? any caps? etc etc, it would be impossible to come to one setting! Newbies may find eMule slow because all the main eMule users will be getting fast downloads and since this is p2p and not direct download, there is only so much to go around! So you have to pretty much work your way up. Some people often ask, "how much do u have to upload?", thats the wrong question. Basically, if you upload a lot of AVI files then people who mainly download AVI files, will have u as a known client and will give u priority in their queue. So basically, someone who uploads 400gb of bin/cue files, then goes off and downloads an AVI file, and none of the sources ever download bin/cue files, well then the chances of the file downloading faster are pretty slim. You just gotta think about it, once you understand the netowrk itself, its easy from there!
