Error ripping with DVD Shrink

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums and dvd ripping so if this is a stupid question, please don't flame me :)

I am trying to rip home-made dvd but I'm getting an error message about half-way through which says "Failed to read from file. The reason is: Data Error(cyclic redundancy check)." This means absolutely jibberish to me! Can someone tell what I can do to prevent this error from appearing?

The dvd that I'm trying to rip is about 4 gigs.

Does the home made dvd have copy protection? Do you need to rip it? Can you just copy an image to your hard drive? Can you just copy the files to your hard drive without using shrink (especially if no compression is needed) by just moving the files or with another copying program.

Sometimes when I get data error--it is a dirty/scratched disc and cleaning it will solve the problem.

I tried to copy the files onto my hard drive but it still gives me an error so there might be some type of copy protection. Is there software or can dvdshrink bypass this?

What software can I use to try to make a direct dvd to dvd copy since I haven't tried that yet.

so what do I need to do or what is the best method to make a copy? I'm new to DVDshrink so please let me know if there are certain options/settings in it that I need to change.

Is DVD X copy a better alternative?
