I have been out of the homebrew/hacking scene for a while so can anyone update me on the progress. For example can we make back up ps3 games yet? and what is the deal with running a different OS on your ps3? I don't get it. thanx in advance!

No news in the modding for PS3 yet. You should expect to find "ISO Loaders" later on, which load game ISOs directly off the PS3 harddrive (would later require a larger harddrive replacement). This eliminates the need to burn games on expensive Blu Ray disks.

Different OS's, all *nix OS's, allow you to code and do things on your PS3 you wouldn't normally do. If you ever had an experience with a Linux OS, this may be interesting to you.
