Hi all,
Well i've got an Xbox 360 at the moment and and was debating whether to go for a Wii or PS3. Made more sense to go for the Wii since its a completly new and original concept, and is much much cheaper! However i've recently been banned from XBL so would prefer a console to use as something to go online with.
Now i dont want to buy another Xbox 360 so was considering buying a PS3 just for gaming online, and the few specialist titles eg Metal Gear etc. Keep the Xbox for all other games and maybe get a Wii later.
However my experiences with going online with the PS2 were awful! Not a huge amount of people on, the amount you could do online was poor, and the amount of lag was terrible!
Then i experienced XBL which kind of shocked me to say the least. Having friends, sending messages to them online/offline, virtually no lag, large amount of people online etc.
So im wondering how the PS3 is online? I can understand its free so doubt it to be as good as XBL but my main queries are regarding number of people online and lag. Games in particular would be NBA 2K7 and Resistance: Fall of Man.

Resistance has pretty much NO lag and you can send messages to other people easily. You have a friends list right at the home screen and it has always online connectivity. There's always lots of people to play with on Resistance too.

ya the ps3 overall is good but resistance gets old pretty fast especially with the all the cheating, i would wait for more games if i were you.

Thanks for the replies, really interested now! However got a few more questions before i take the leap.
1)
Launch problems? With all consoles, theres always a problem with the launch consoles which are normally repaired in the next version. So is there anything wrong with the PS3 which the majority of people are complaining about (eg 3 red lights on Xbox360 is almost definatly going to occur on all of them!). Dont want to spend this much money if it'll just die a day after my 1 year warranty expires.
2)
I may have to use the console through a SD tv for a good few months. Will there be any problems if its connected to a SD set?

There have been no major problems with the PS3 hardware (there is a tread kicking around on that very topic).
I can't afford HD so use an SD set and it still looks great!

Granite69- what cheating happens on resistance?!?!
I have an sd but my hd should be coming soon, you'll have no problems with an sd tv

Ok im not trying to be rude at all here but if you havent experienced any cheating you must not play that much. Not as much in ranked games but unranked, regardless, people hiding in walls and getting on top of the roofs, going outside the maps,etc. Yes there is cheating on resistance, once again not trying to be rude just making a point.

Lol yeah I play resistance lots and have experienced cheating, i know there are a few glitches but i know in the new update they fixed a couple but not all, oh yeah and resistance has no lag what so ever unless you have a bad connection.

Lol is it like Halo 2 cheating where you can shoot rockets and tanks out of pistols? Or is it just glitch exploits?

Aww. But like how ausome is that? You can get mini-ghosts in lockout and just race around on the ramps and everything! My friend was telling me about it. He said that this guy had an SMG and he shot out like 20 hot-wheel sized ghosts and they were just driving around!

lol i was wandering where so many people came from when i played an unranked game in manchester :) As long as it doesnt happen in ranked games its kl, or does it.

Yeah and in a ranked game people are running around and don't have enough time to glitch into a wall or els they will get killed and they mostly wanna rank up quickly so they get as many kills as possible.
