Is there anyone actually working on it? I haven't seen those weekly updatesz in a long time. You know what else sucks the wii was hacked i Febuary.

Lower your flags and march straight back to England, stopping at every home to beg forgiveness for a hundred years of theft, rape, and murder. Do this and your men shall live. Do it not, and every one of you will die today.

Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!

i think i remember seeing an external hard-drive mod for the PS3, where you copied the games onto the HDD and played off that. though, i can't find any links to it anymore. (or if in fact it really existed. could have been a fake).

Its going to be pretty hard, since they will be constantly updating the system with firmware. No doubt a brainiac will figure something out eventually, but not gonna hold my breath.

How about just buy the games instead of being a bunch of cheap bastards

ps3 with 20gb hard drive

xbox 360 premium edtion with vga/hd hook up to my dell 20.1 inch widescreen lcd.

White and black 1.5 psp's

I'll take this down WHEN micro$oft decides to stop being lazy and make the capcom fighting games backwards compatible with the 360 dammit!!!

Yeah, being able to play games for free would be nice, but I'm more excited about the homebrew potential!

you know, some people modify their consoles just for the sake of making them a little bit more unique...or to see if it could actually be done. Being able to play backed up games is just an added bonus.

It's sort of like solving a puzzle. It takes a lot of time and patience, but the end result is well worth it.

Well I just wanted to say making an image or even putting a game on disc isn't enough. You have to manipulate the system in order to get anything to boot.Normally they have hidden boot sectors on the disc that can't be read without the proper equipment.A modchip would work, but once again where do you actually start.I was thinking do you start on the actual Blu-Ray drive or the actual split nand that stores the firmware update.I think you can develop a modchip, but it won't be cheap producing one.You will end up spending a couple grand just on developmental stages. The Actel modchip programmers are not cheap,so if you want to hack at this system with a modchip you will probably end up spending more than you can handle.Unless you plan on mass producing a modchip it really isn't worth the investment.

LBurna is completely right.modchip is almost a definite no-no.plus the ps3 is so expensive why would you wanna risk it?the xbox 360 had some modchips but dont those ppl regret it now when the firmware hack came into play.those companies just lost alot of money.and at the time those modchips were the first ones so ofcourse they werent perfect so not alot of ppl bought them.there is already a homebrew method that's stick at AD but that's really risky.i'd say dont mod it for another 2 years lol.peace

I just don't know if a mod would be worth it. Look at what mods did to the XBox 360 users. NO THANK YOU

I can tell you all this,as an engineer and after studying numerous electronic courses. The best way to actually learn how the chips work in the PS3 is to take one out of the system with a solder iron. Then you physically have to break it to see what exactly is in the chip. You get your pin layout this way,but as I mentioned this isn't a cheap method. You eventually end up paying more than it is worth.I know how to read chips, troubleshoot them, and program them as well. The best thing I can advise is if you ever create a modchip, you must seriously know how to troubleshoot them.

There's no point in waiting for the modchip for at least 2 yrs.. it will definitely take 2 yrs to get a good modchip.. So, buy an original one first and when the PS3 prices go down and modchips will b available in the market with at least 90% working titles.. go for it.. SIMPLE!!!
So, forget about modding the PS3 for at least 2 yrs.. already 1 yr has passed.. u will keep on waiting and all the gamers will go ahead than u.. Seriously it will b no fun playing titles like MGS4, DMC4, RE5 after 1 yr or 2 yrs..

My advice - if u r a serious gamer save some money and purchase it..
thats wht im doing rite now..
